Volkswagen has revealed final design sketches of its upcoming Taigo coupe-SUV which will go on sale in Europe later this year.

Volkswagen has released the official design sketches of the upcoming Taigo; the newest addition to brand’s small SUV range. The new Volkswagen Taigo will be a crossover model, featuring a coupe-like silhouette with a sloping roofline.



The Taigo is said to be based on the Volkswagen Nivus SUV, available in the Brazilian market. Its premiere is scheduled to take place in the coming months. Volkswagen has also confirmed that the new Taigo SUV will go on sale in Europe by end-2021.



Once launched, the new Taigo Coupe-SUV is said to come packed with a host of modern features and equipment. This includes a fully-digital cockpit, a multitude of driver assist systems, LED headlamps as standard across all variants and also a modern operating concept.



While the exact powertrain options are yet to be revealed, Volkswagen has confirmed that the Taigo will come with the brand’s economical TSI engine options. This is said to offer the right balance of both performance and efficiency.

I mis-read that as Tiago, and thought VW was going to sell a rebadged Tiago in Brazil, and was genuinely confused.

I am wondering, how VW/Skoda will feel if Tata launches a UV above Nexon with the name Tiagun, or Krishak?

If 'Kushaq' means King, 'Krishak' means farmer, both are Hindi words with a legitimate meaning.

I also mis-read it as Tiago, and the first though that came to my mind was 'copyrights'!

Volkswagen TAIGO is the nothing but the Nivus, for Europe.

Volkswagen enriched its gamma on the South American market with an SUV-Coupe model called Nivus, while in the second half of this year this model will also be on the European market

In Europe, however, it will be sold under the name Taigo, something Volkswagen confirmed months ago.

it is worth remembering that Nivus is 4266 mm long, the inter-axle distance is 2566 mm, and the trunk volume is 415 litres.

2022 Volkswagen Taigo makes debut.



Volkswagen Taigo stands at 4266mm long, 1494mm tall and 1757mm wide with a 2566mm wheelbase.



Taigo SUV has a luggage space of around 385 litres, but can be expanded to up to 455 litres with its sliding rear seat feature.



Volkswagen will also offer the Taigo with R-Line variant with sportier-looking front bumper and a rear bumper.



The interior of the Taigo is similar to the one seen in the recently launched new generation Polo



Taigo gets an 8-inch large digital instrumentation (Virtual Cockpit) and a 6.5-inch large infotainment screen as standard. Top-spec variants will get an optional 10.25-inch version of the instrument cluster and an infotainment display with a diameter of 8 inches.



The Taigo will be available with two engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine is capable of generating between 95 hp and 110 hp. The 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine is capable of churning out 150 hp. Both engines will be mated to either a five- or six-speed manual transmission, as well as the option of a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.



Customer deliveries commence in early 2022.

VW Tiago in Green: ( essentially it is the Nivus for Europe)

with a length of 4,266 mm, a width of 1,757 mm and a height of 1,494 mm. It offers seats for up to five occupants and has a trunk of 438 liters.

On the front stands out the wide grille, which integrates at the ends the LED headlights as standard (Matrix in the upper finishes), and the wide air intake of the bumper. The lower plastic protections are very subtle at the front, but gain volume on the sides and even more on the rear. There is no shortage of roof bars, a discreet rear wing and rear pilots attached together.

It is possible to choose between eight colors (two smooth, five metallic and one with pearl effect), all of them compatible with the roof in black tone except, for obvious reasons, the 'Deep Black'. The size of the wheels ranges between 16 and 18 inches, depending on the level of equipment selected (Taigo, Life, Style and R-Line).

It also highlights the fact that the Digital Cockpit is standard in all finishes, with a digital frame of 8 inches and a center console of 6.5, although in the upper ones the screens reach up to 10.25. Also depending on the level of equipment, one of the four available multimedia systems is mounted.

The main stay will be the 1.0 TSI of 95 hp, with five-speed manual transmission and a top speed of 183 km/h.
Above is the same powertrain but with 110 hp, six-ratio manual transmission or seven-ratio DSG as an option, and 191 km/h tip.
The top of the range is the 1.5 TSI of 150 hp, which reaches 212 km/h. Volkswagen has not specified its gearbox, but it should be available with both the automatic and the manual.

How I wish that this is how the to-be-launched Taigun looked. The Kushaq is of similar length, but has a significantly smaller boot style. This sort of looks would have really helped VW take the fight to the Korean camp.

I personally loved the design. Seems like a nice blend between a cross, hatchback and coupe. Nice clean lines although the rear is too overdone. Given this is >4M I don't think VW will consider launching this here but a <4M model along similar lines would be a nice addition to the SCSUV group. On another note, isn't it time to do away with the <4M rule!

The first Volkswagen Coupé SUV for Europe is already being manufactured. Series production of the new Volkswagen Taigo has started. A model that bears the "Made in Spain" stamp. Production is taking place at the brand's facilities in Navarra

The first Taigo manufactured in Spain is a model configured with the R-Line trim level and a body painted in red. Under its hood is a 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder petrol engine with 150 hp and 250 Nm of maximum torque associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox as well as a front-wheel drive system

The new Volkswagen Taigo is produced in the same factory as the Polo and the T-Cross.

2021 Volkswagen Taigo now on sale in the UK from £21,960.

It is offered with a choice of two petrol engines, a 1.0-litre turbocharged triple with either 94bhp or 109bhp, or a 1.5-litre four-pot with 148bhp. Each is available with a five- or six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed DSG
