Hyundai has released a teaser image of its upcoming crossover called the Bayon. It will replace the i20 Active in the European market around mid-2021.

The Hyundai Bayon is named after the French city of Bayonne. The car is expected to be based on the same platform as the i20 hatchback and will be positioned below the Kona in the company's line-up. The teaser image partially reveals the car's rear end and its boomerang shaped tail lamp.

In Europe, the Bayon could be offered with the same powertrain options as the i20. These include a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 84 BHP and a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol unit with 118 BHP. The car could also get a mild-hybrid option. Customers are likely get a choice of 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

The Hyundai Bayon will compete with the Toyota Yaris Cross and Ford Puma in the European market.

Oh my god! My eyes!!! Hyundai is making sure their cars act as walking billboards for H lettering from rear. Front looks like an evil sidekick from a horror film.

The Bayon will be offered with just one engine in the UK: a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol three-cylinder making 99bhp or 118bhp and optionally fitted with a 48V mild-hybrid system for an efficiency boost.

This can be matched with either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox or Hyundai’s new six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission.

Re: Hyundai Bayon crossover to replace i20 Active in Europe

With Bayon joining the likes of Venue, Kona, Creta, Tucson and Palisade and the Alcazar soon to follow, Hyundai's crossover line-up is getting very crowded and confusing. With controversial styling elements to go with them, the Korean car-maker is also making sure all these crossovers stand out.

Not always in a good way, sure, but I think the Bayon looks good! I didn't get this feeling looking at the Creta or Kona initially but those designs have grown on me now.

Re: Hyundai Bayon crossover to replace i20 Active in Europe

No comments as such about the exterior styling. I'm not a fan of their latest design philosophy. I like the previous generations of all their line-up on looks more. But thats subjective. So there will be a lot that like this new fresh look also.

But no thought put in dashboard design at all? Isn't this almost identical to that of the new i20? Hardly any difference whatsoever.

I wanted to comment on the looks. But there was no way I could describe It.

But now I have found a way to describe it : Hideous.

That's it , just Hideous.

This is the same company who's Luxury division(Genesis) is making some of the best looking cars out there.

Well I said no comments from me, but I'll comment now . To be honest - I didn't find this one that bad. Especially if you place it besides the current Creta - this looks absolutely fine. And we know how much people are liking the Creta. The "relativity" factor will work in favour of Hyundai here.

This one looks pretty proportionate and the unique rear treatment is also quite smartly finished. While I didn't like the overall looks of course, I can live with it. didn't find it too offensive per se. Certainly not unbearable. Again of course - its looks, so completely subjective. Everyone is right.

Re: Hyundai Bayon crossover to replace i20 Active in Europe

I didn't know that

a) Hyundai sold a gimmick product like i20 Active in Europe. Thought these were reserved for India.
b) Bayonne is pronounced as "Bee own"
c) They needed to fill every minute gap between the product line-up.
