Dacia Spring Electric (rebadged Renault Kwid) set to become Europe's cheapest Electric Car

The Dacia Spring will take on electric city car rivals like the SEAT Mii Electric with a sub-£19,000 asking price.

Under the skin, Dacia has equipped the Spring with a 43bhp electric motor with 125Nm of torque. It’s paired with a 26.8kWh battery, which according to official WLTP testing allows for a range of 140 miles on a single charge - though this could increase to 183 miles in the type of urban driving it’s designed to do. No acceleration figures have been released, but Dacia states a top speed of 78mph.

At that price, it comes to about 18 to 19 lakh INR for 220 km range. Won't NCAP star rated cars like the Nexon do better? The Kwid doesn't last even 50k miles in India- most people report bad rattles and high maintenance post that mark.

You can not compare the pricing grade between India and France. Average entry level ICE cars cost around 20k EUR (~1.7 MINR) compared to India where it is around 5 to 6 lakhs for a hatch. So pricing of an entry level EV below 20 EUR is a hot decision. So comparing to an India market specific Nexon to a global product which is 3 x times cheaper isn't a proper comparison to do.

Regarding the performance aspects of India Kwid, I don't think it is not a concern here as the quality offered on the International version are much better(Because India market needs cheap cars, nobody will buy a good quality Kwid at 7 lakhs price ) and here it is a BEV, so reliability over performance is guranteed.

re: Dacia Spring Electric (rebadged Renault Kwid) set to become Europe's cheapest Electric Car

I would love to see a car like this with around 200Kms range sold in India for around 8L on road. Electric cars work brilliantly in a pure urban set up, where we have smaller trips but excessive traffic and stops - where ICE is the most inefficient.

The emphasis on EV range is not a great trend - I would not have the confidence to take an EV out to the highway, but even with a 200km range I have 3-4 days of comfortable urban city running with nothing more than overnight charging.

Coming to the specs - 125NM torque is plenty. I am happy with my 90nm currently in the city - this should be mighty sufficient.

Re: Dacia Spring Electric (rebadged Renault Kwid) set to become Europe's cheapest Electric Car

Euro NCAP ratings for the Dacia Spring Electric will likely be released on 25 November 2021.

A news report claims that Dacia is 'hoping for one star' in the tests. The manufacturer has recently stated its reasoning behind not chasing Euro NCAP stars, following the Sandero, Stepway and Logan's 2-star result (the Jogger hasn't been tested yet and neither has the Sandero's rating been extended to it).

Unlike the Indian Renault Kwid, the Dacia Spring is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and ISOFIX anchorages. It is also equipped with anti-lock brakes with brake assist. However, the model might perform poorly due to the more demanding Euro NCAP safety assessment protocol.

Since the EU requires the presence of a UN-compliant three-point seatbelt in all seating positions, the rear centre lap belt found on the Indian car has been removed and the car is marketed as being capable of seating four.

Results for the MG Marvel R are also expected during the release.

Update: Tomorrow's Euro NCAP results will not include any crash test results but will rather be Assisted Driving Gradings for more cars.

Dacia Spring Euro NCAP tested:

Quote:
The full electric Spring, marketed as a brand new vehicle, is heavily based on the Chinese-made Renault City K-ZE, itself a derivative of the troublesome Renault Kwid, sold in India and Brazil for several years. Dacia has staunch supporters across Europe: car buyers who appreciate the low entry prices and steer clear of “useless features” in their car. However, with the Spring, the “masters of frugal engineering” have launched a product that goes beyond no-frills. Its performance in crash tests is downright problematic, with a high risk of life-threatening injuries for driver chest and rear passenger head in frontal crash tests and marginal chest protection in side impact. The mediocre crash performance and poor crash avoidance technology results in one star rating for Dacia Spring.

Re: Dacia Spring Electric (rebadged Renault Kwid) set to become Europe's cheapest Electric Car

Renault Kwid electric will have Pro version with 321 km of autonomy

In addition to Renault and Dacia, Dongfeng sells the electric Kwid, which will now have Pro version with more autonomy and slightly more sophisticated look.

Quote:
Every Renault Kwid electric, whether it's Dacia Spring, Renault City K-ZE or Dongfeng EX1, is produced in China. From there it is exported to other countries. The trio uses an electric motor of 44 hp and 12.7 kgfm of torque fueled by 27.4 kWh batteries that comes from 271 km autonomy in the NEDC cycle.
Quote:
However, Dongfeng has already ready a more efficient and powerful variant of the electric Kwid and that may be precisely the option to be offered in Brazil. Named Dongfeng New Energy EX1 Pro, it gains new 26.8 kWh batteries that increase total autonomy to 321 km also in the NEDC cycle.
Power and torque remain the same, but for the Brazilian Renault Kwid E-Tech, the French brand is expected to add a few more horses and take advantage of dongfeng's new model batteries. In addition to the more powerful batteries, it also gained some visual changes.

Quote:
To celebrate the launch of the Pro version of the Electric Kwid, Dongfeng will offer a limited series of 300 units with interior with black and red seats, diamond alloy wheels, ad camera, shark antenna, central arm rest and crankcase protector. It remains to be seen whether any of these elements will be in The Brazilian Kwid E-Tech.

Quote:
The main difference between the combustion and the electric version is the front grille, closed. It's identical to China's Kwid ZE. In the rear, you will have to pay attention to realize that there is no escape outlet. Even the wheels are the same as the ZE, different from the versions already sold here in Brazil
Quote:
Low weight reflex is the combination of smaller battery and greater autonomy. In the European model, the battery has a capacity of 26.8 kWh, which combined with the total weight of 970 kg, allows to run up to 295 kilometers in the city following the WLTP standard.

Quote:
but everything indicates that the goal is to launch the Kwid E-Tech as the cheapest electric car in Brazil. This should happen in the first half of this year.

Re: Dacia Spring Electric (rebadged Renault Kwid) set to become Europe's cheapest Electric Car

Thoroughly refreshed Dacia Spring to be revealed on Wednesday.
Could form base for Nissan-Renault CMF-A EVs for India.

Teaser:
Dacia Spring Electric (rebadged Renault Kwid) set to become Europe's cheapest Electric Car-20240219114744_dacia_spring_ev_2024_teaser.jpg

Quote:
Dacia will unveil a heavily updated Spring EV on February 21, which is essentially an all-electric version of sister brand Renault's Kwid.
Quote:
Sources tell us that the new Spring EV will share quite a few of its design elements with the new Duster, including the angular headlamps, the new grille design and some design bits at the rear.
Quote:
The interior too will get updates, and an all-new dashboard and steering wheel design are expected.
Source: ACI

Good riddance to the Kwid dashboard IMO. Way too old to use in a 2025-at-least product.
