Re: Ford CEO Jim Hackett steps down, Jim Farley current COO takes over

I never liked Hackett. He was an outsider supposed to do an "Alan Mulally", but miserably failed. Under Hackett, Ford completely abandoned the sedan segment (foolish IMHO), took one foot out of India (gave control to Mahindra), botched up the F150 launch (their most important vehicle) & more.

Ford needs stability. 2 of their most recent CEOs have lasted merely 3 years. I think very highly of Farley; hope he performs well in the CEO position.

I don't think Ford launched a new F-150 in Jim's tenure. The botched-up launches were actually the current Explorer and it's platform-sharing twin, the Lincoln Aviator. Both appear to have recovered from the launch issues and are doing good now from what I read.

I agree with you on the other two decisions - exiting cars and getting into a JV in India. They are definitely short-sighted.

Re: Ford CEO Jim Hackett steps down, Jim Farley current COO takes over

Among the achievements of the outgoing President and CEO Jim Hackett listed in this press release by NY Times are elimination of money losing car models from the North American market, introduction of more pick-ups and SUV's and ushering in of the dormant Bronco SUV. Among his other achievements are alliances with Volkswagen, Mahindra and Rivian.

The mention of Mahindra here in this newsreport makes us proud as an Indian.

Quote:
Mr. Hackett is credited with eliminating money-losing cars from Ford’s North American lineup in favor of more profitable pickups and S.U.V.s. He formed alliances with Volkswagen, the Indian automaker Mahindra and Rivian, a start-up working on electric trucks in which Ford has invested. Mr. Hackett also accelerated plans to develop electric vehicles.

Mustang Supercar machinery has had a Hollywood encounter in the guise of comedian Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon recently stopped by the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn with global Ford boss Jim Farley.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon host was introduced to Ford workers.

He was also treated to laps alongside Farley in a former Dick Johnson Racing Mustang Supercar.
