In an era when more and more people are going an extra mile to express their individuality, there’s nothing wrong in wanting to add a touch of exclusivity to their personal style. Even if it means shelling an insane amount of money on something as basic as a car’s number plate. Like this businessman from Dubai who shelled crores to get a personalised number plate for one of his cars. The man in question is Balvinder Sahni.

Also known as Abu Sabah, Balvinder Sahni is a Dubai-based Indian-origin property developer and chairman of RSG Group of Companies. According to the company’s official website, RSG (Raj Sahni Group) was established in the ‘70s as a business of Automotive Spare Parts and soon ventured into sectors such as Real Estate, Industrial Equipment and Investments and Property Development. Today, the business is spread across Middle East, USA and South Asia.

In October 2016, Sahni made headlines for paying of 33 million dirhams (approximately ₹60 crore at that time, the current estimate is around ₹67 crore), for a number plate for one of his six Rolls Royce cars. And not just any number plate, it was the “D5” number plate auctioned by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.

Numerology has a key role to play in his decision to spend crores on the number plate. According to a report in Forbes, Sahni considers number nine to be very auspicious and D5 adds up to nine – D(4)+5.
