If so, this could be the SUV that will be based on the Suzuki’s C-platform that underpins the global Vitara and Brezza. Will rival Hyundai's Creta, Kia Seltos and others in this segment.

It is likely to measure around 4.3 meters in length. There will be two different versions of this SUV, one each for Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

New Toyota Corolla Cross 2022 trademarked in Australia! Corolla-based small SUV to take fight to Kia Seltos.

the Corolla Cross – or whatever it ends being called – is on the way, and it will sit alongside the C-HR in Toyota’s growing SUV line-up and therefore take on the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Kona, among other small models.

Like the Corolla and C-HR, the Corolla Cross should ride on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform and will likely share its powertrain options with the former, including its 125kW 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine and 90kW 1.8-litre petrol-electric full hybrid.

Front- and all-wheel drive are both expected to be available, as per the Yaris Cross, while continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVT) will feature prominently across the range, if not exclusively.

And there’s also the prospect of a GR Corolla Cross that would rival Hyundai’s yet-to-be-revealed Kona N by adopting the GR Yaris’ 200kW 1.6-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, which is also expected to power the mooted GR Corolla hot hatch.

This model would be positioned as a more practical alternative to the Toyota C-HR but at the same time simpler and more affordable than the RAV-4.

All the initial details indicate the initial launch in several Asian markets, followed by the release in South America. Corolla Cross will be produced in Brazil and can reach the US market whether it will be available in Europe or not is still unknown at this time.

The debut of the new Toyota Corolla Cross is set for sometime in 2021. It remains to be seen in which markets it will initially go on sale, although everything indicates that Brazil will be one of them. Chances are that the first units will be available by the end of next year or even as early as 2022.
