SA politician buried in his beloved Mercedes E500

According to media reports, a South African politician has been buried in his Mercedes E500 as per his last wish.

The pictures from the funeral show the body of Tshekede Bufton Pitso in the driver's seat of his Mercedes in a driving position. Even the seatbelt has been fastened. It is said that he collapsed on his driveway while walking towards his car.

It has been reported that Pitso was also a successful businessman and had a fleet of Mercedes cars in his garage. However, owing to financial difficulties, he had to sell some of the cars. It is said that he was attached to the E500 and that he spent a lot of time with it in the garage. The car had multiple mechanical failures and could not be driven.

Re: SA politician buried in his beloved Mercedes E500

I wonder how they succeeded in bending the body to a sitting position after rigour mortis set in. Unless they positioned his corpse within the first 2 to 3 hours or so of death.

Appropriately both the owner and the car were dead!

3000 years later if his grave is accidentally found the denizens of the 51st century will know this was a ritualistic burial where a man and his ride are buried together!

A true car lover. RIP

I only wish he had also mentioned in his "last wish" that the funeral organisers must hire a crane to lower the CARpse into the grave. That would have ensured a more dignified farewell to the man and his machine!

I seriously thought it was either a replay or a recollection of this news item.

A true motor head but I cant help wondering what purpose it serves to anyone, including the deceased.

That is one wicked coffin. The 500E has a 5.0L V8 from the bigger Mercs of the time and was assembled by Porsche!
Porsche was also responsible for shoehorning the V8 into the engine bay.

I just hope petrol, plastic parts, fluids, and lubrication was removed. It'd be a careless act to pollute the soil by burying the car.

I wonder if it actually is! All 500E's were left hand drive as the steering column could not be relocated. This is a right hand drive version and does not have the discreetly flared wheel arches.

Man was buckled up, holding the steering wheel too!

Many car enthusiasts have opted for a car instead of a coffin (one of many such instances).

Well, if future generations (or species), only have fossils to know about the current generation, this will be a cool way to be discovered.

Would be interesting to read the history books then.

Rigor Mortis is not permanent. Muscles start to break down once the body starts to decompose and hence the rigor fades away after around 18-24 hours or so depending on the climate of the area.

Wonder if there are any legal hassles in India if an enthusiast wanted it this way. That said, would love to know about his other collection of cars if that information is available online.

I hope the battery was removed. People in the neighborhood would not want to hear frantic honking in the middle of the night.
