2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) now with 640 horses

The 'supercar which can be used daily'-the 911 turbo has got the biggest power bump in its long illustrious (and terrifying) history, from 580 in the 640 bhp!

- Engine has many new components though with same displacement of 3.8 l flat six configuration with twin VGT turbos. The turbine wheels are now bigger by 5 mm and rotate in opposite directions now (countering gyro effects? reminded me of the Tupolev bomber)

-Wider by 45 mm at the front and 20 mm at the rear to accommodate wider track

- Turbo specific 8 speed PDK cuts 0-100 kpm to just 2.7 sec (through people have already clocked the earlier 991 turbo at 2.6 sec, so this should be even quicker)

- The 'Over-boost' function which was available for short duration earlier is now available all the time

- Peak torque of 800 N-m, 50 N-m up from the previous gen turbo

I bet it would be closer to 2.4sec to 100kmh.Does the 992 gen still retain that press to pass button which was available in the 991.2 which would give full power for 20sec ?
With 800nm of torque retained all the time unlike the overboost feature of the previous gen, this might be the quickest thing on the road only second to the 720s,765LTs.Excited for the launch control videos already!!

You bet. The 991 had 750 with overboost, and this one has 800 all the time! Graph of the previous gen is available in the catalogue.

Not to mention, it is a 'bargain' when compared to the 720 and 765

Bill Gates will probably go for this one as well

Also, I am not a fan of the new '911' logo. The previous one was timeless.

Since the transition to turbo from NA, the 911 Carrera S in the 4S guise now does 0-100 kmph in 3.4s... blurring the lines between the 'vanilla' 911 and the turbo even more.

I wonder If through ecu trickery the standard 911 acceleration feels like NA or if it's made to feel like the turbo model where the power, for tradition sake, hits you later. If the Carrera throttle feels the same not sure how much more appeal the turbo will have left over the standard model, other than noteiceably higher top speed.

Given the now much wider active rear wing on the Carrera/S... I did kinda of wish for this generation they would have gotten rid of the fixed rear wing for the turbo though and replaced it with Carrera's active wing, the car just looks so much more prettier with uninterrupted lines in the back.

The Turbo S variant is truly one of my favourites and an absolute all-rounder.

The 911 Carrera S manages to get to 100 kph only 0.1 sec slower than the 4S! Though the rear wheel drive model weighs a significant 70 kgs lower as well. Also the launch control spools up turbos to avoid any turbo lag so it is much quicker than a normal standing start. The standard 911's turbines are also smaller than the turbo, with engine also being 800cc smaller.

As for the rear wing, it has been a part of the all the turbos so this one gets it as well! Porsche's active aero has almost evolved to Bugatti levels with an active rear wing, air brake deployment beyond 170 kph, lowering ride height, front air vents etc.

The global media drive was supposed to happen today but since things have taken such a turn it's postponed until further notice.
Some exclusive footage which was shot before the whole lockdown situation and some key insights provided by Mr JWW

1.641bhp and 800nm torque on tap all-time
2.69bhp more than the previous gen.(biggest step up in power increase in the model's 45 year history)
3.10 piston carbon ceramic brakes
4.15% improvement in aero and downforce

Re: 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) now with 640 horses

911 turbo RS package to be offered by Porsche!

Herr Frank Stephen Walliser, head of the 911 series mentioned in an interview with Total 911 magazine that they are looking at reducing body weight and changing some ‘bits & pieces’ on the 992 turbo and even Carreras as per customer demand (these guys take feedback quite seriously). Sounds very much like the RS path to me.

Imagine the reception the 992 GT3 will get once it is revealed, in the works right now.

Re: 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) now with 640 horses

The 2021 model year Porsche 911 has also received some changes including a new paint job and new interior trims that add a retro charm to the model.

On the inside, the 2021 Porsche 911 will get a retro-looking leather package which will remind you of the original 911 Turbo. It will only be available of Carrera models and will get quilted seats and central panels both at the front and rear.

The new Python Green exterior hue is also part of the latest updates, along with the Ambient Light Design Package with seven selectable colours.

Porsche has also launched the seven-speed manual version in Europe without any additional cost on these base models.

Re: 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) now with 640 horses

I am not sure if this is the right thread for posting this.

Porsche's 911 & 718 program's product head Frank-Steffen Walliser says that he is against the electrification of the 911 product range and ensures that the 911 will always have a Flat-Six.

More on this here:- https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...ct-head-417332

He is correct in saying that for now, as both the stakeholders and the customers need to be kept happy! For its loyal customers, the 911 will always be ICE powered, but pretty sure electrical assistance is being considered for the 911.

Like Ford announced that the Mustang will always be available with an ICE, yet they launched a parallel Mach-e brand to see how that works out.

Porsche will definitely 'electrify' the 911's powertrain, perhaps in the next generation or the one after that one, as the reducing CO2 levels expected will mandate that in the future. They have already down sized the engine from 3.8 to a twin-turbo 3.0 to achieve some of that as per CAFE norms. Electrification will enable them to reduce that even further in the coming years. Also, they have never been afraid of testing new things, eg. 996 came out with a water cooled engine, Cayenne was considered to be an abomination etc.
