Nissan GT-R turns 50

The Nissan GT-R sports car has turned 50 this year.

The first-generation of the car (KPGC10) was launched in February 1969. Over the years, the GT-R has become one of the most iconic names in the industry. Till the fifth-generation, the car used the Skyline brand name. The sixth-generation of the car was unveiled in 2007 and has been on sale since.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary, Nissan built a special edition of the current GT-R. It is available in two variants - Premium and Track Edition and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine. In the Premium variant the engine produces 557 BHP and 633 Nm, while in the Track Edition, it produces 592 BHP and 652 Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Nissan has also released two videos showing production versions of all cars as well as clips of some GT-Rs used in motorsport.

Congratulations to Nissan on keeping this brand alive so long!

This sentence pretty much sums up the current status of the car. 12 years is too long in the tooth. It has lost the supercar-killer title it used to have when it was released, and doesn't generate excitement amongst the supercar community any longer.

It's time for Nissan to bring out a new GT-R, but god knows if and when that will ever happen with the turmoil the company is currently in.

Cheers

Was an icon when launched, but way too old today. Happy 50th, GT-R! Sharing one of my all-time favourite videos. Love the "you can't touch this" song playing when it smokes other cars / bikes:

What a legendary car and equally legendary moniker - GT-R. The name itself is enough to send shivers down competitors' spines. Congrats, Godzilla for five decades of greatness. One of the greatest bang for buck performance cars ever produced, smoking all manner of competitors from across the world.

P.S. - Absolutely love the "Cant Touch This" series of videos on YouTube. There are a ton of these around, and all of these great for some quick fun and adrenalin in between a dreary workday
By the way, at 4:15 on this video, the way the GTR pulls away from the Yamaha R1 at those speeds is absolutely insane!

Happy birthday GT-R. Gotta love it when a ricer smokes some uber expensive Euro sports cars and super bikes too. At 2:45, that Veyron driver is looking at his car's wheel dash and thinking "Go Go Go!!" and a few seconds later the GT-R takes off. I classify this video as adult content. Thanks for sharing GTO.

GT-R season - see this baby smoke 2000 HP Lambos . You know you're in crap when the car you're dragging with has a parachute to help it stop.
Petrol engines FTW

Limited-run Nissan GT-R 50 by Italdesign makes production debut.

The ultra-exclusive GT-R 50 by Italdesign - a collaboration between Nissan and the revered Italian styling house - has entered production in time for customer deliveries later this year. Priced from €990,000 (£883,000) before taxes and options. Italdesign says “a significant number of deposits” have already been taken.
