Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

Want to know why MANA did what they did? This.

And this is how it might become with the aftermarket itching for some action. I'd say not terribly bad at all if it indeed morph into this, given legal did the design with absolute minimum BOM.

I guess it's 20th Century Fox's turn to sue Mahindra now.

Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

This design model and look seems at best like -

a. Discarded cars jeeps used in "Maut ka Kuwa" or Well of Death which is in village fairs, where cars - bikes - jeeps revolve fast in the pit defying gravity and people watch it from top by buying tickets.

b. Circus vehicle - which does jumps and stunts

Wonder if the design engineers were inspired from these.

What they said they were doing,
Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US-screen-shot-20200920-4.52.33-pm.png

What they actually did,

They said, "Freakier" and this is the truest version of themselves after looking deep.

Don't expect anything better from a company that couldn't design it's own decent looking grill for the new Thar. They are clueless if asked to do anything without copying.

Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

Well, Mahindra actually created a multi purpose vehicle to be used in farms.

1. Capable, for its uses when in motion
2. A little off road fun-worthy
3. Don't park it in the garage, park it in center of the farm, it will act as a scarecrow.

Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

This thread is filled with overly negative responses against the 2020 Roxor's looks, but sadly, I have to agree with the set tone. My first reaction on seeing the images for the very first time on Autocar India was "What the heck is this?". I love quirky cars, but this doesn't fit in my area of "quirky styling" at all. I really wish I had some supernatural power with which I could get inside the mind of any person, so that I could understand first-hand what is wrong with the design department. In SandyX sir's post, the 2020 Roxor's styling (above the newly-revealed post-2020 Roxor's design) with the slightly inset headlights and horizontally narrower grille looks better, frankly.

Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

It's hats off to M&M for their full fledged efforts since nearly a decade to enter the US market. They have been motivated all the while ,never giving up despite the multiple hiccups.

The US President Donald Trump praised their efforts after the inauguration of their Detroit plant ,saying it will create jobs for Americans .

The Roxor design though now very original and light years away from any Jeep influences, could have been better though. The front portion could have got better looks, given the fact that they have a full fledged design department near Chennai and more so because they own Pininfarina.

Mahindra Roxor Ban Lifted In The US – Fiat Chrysler Unhappy, To Appeal Again

Quote:
New ITC Ruling lifts ban on Mahindra Roxor in the US After the most recent hearing, the Trade Commission ruled that the latest version of Mahindra Roxor does not violate the FCA-owned Jeep’s trade dress or intellectual property rights. The ITC also accepted an administrative judge’s recommendation made in October which states that the design changes made are adequate and the earlier cease and desist order should not apply for the latest iteration of the Roxor. Reacting to ITC’s ruling, Mahindra stated, “The ruling validates Mahindra’s redesign of the highly popular Roxor off-road vehicle. Mahindra is now permitted to manufacture and distribute the redesigned 2021 Roxor.”
FCA’s reaction
Quote:
While the 2021 Mahindra Roxor looks nothing like any of the current of previous versions of Jeep Wrangler anymore, the American SUV brand’s parent company FCA is not happy with ITC’s decision to lift the ban. In a statement, FCA admitted that it is “disappointed by the commission’s decision regarding the redesign”. The auto major believes that it will be successful it its appeal to overturn this decision.

FCA’s reaction

May be they couldn't digest the success and Roxor denting the sales of other side by sides which FCA never tried. And this appeal and all the fuss is just to kill the product and brand in the bud. They should get down to it and launch a product if they see a value stream else just leave MANA to sell their product (post design change). Not expected from a company like FCA.

Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

Its time Mahindra moved away aping Jeep's grill. They are no longer limited to Jeep kind of vehicles. Should try a newer grill on jeeps in india and the extend it to SUVs etc

Re: Mahindra loses Roxor (Jeep lookalike) case in US

Now Jeep is battling Mahindra over Thar in Australia

The summary:

The global battle between US car giant Jeep and Indian manufacturer Mahindra over a four-wheel-drive with an uncanny likeness to the iconic Jeep Wrangler has moved to Australia.

At a case management hearing in the Federal Court of Australia today, legal representatives for Jeep and Mahindra went head-to-head to dispute the terms of an agreement which would effectively ban the Mahindra Thar – a Jeep Wrangler look-a-like – from being marketed and sold in Australia.

In addition to Jeep commencing Australian Consumer Law proceedings against Mahindra for alleged “misleading and deceptive conduct”, “passing off”, and “infringement of registered designs”, the US car giant is seeking an undertaking Mahindra will not launch the Thar in Australia – and provide at least 90 days written notice if ever there was an intention to do so.
