Yes it was Golden in coulur and had gold coloured badges. It even said 1000SEL at the back. Wonder where he got that number from

About the W220 S class, one, black coloured S 600 stretch was owned by Dhirubhai Ambani. I have seen him in the car the very morning of the day he was hospitalised.

There is another 1971 W100 S600 in Bombay awaiting restoration. It is owned by a friend.

The one in Pune is a deep blue, tailplane aerial and 1000SEL badge included. Are Mallya and Poona cars the same? Surely there can't be 2 people capable of putting a 1000SEL badge on the car.

Rashtrapathi Bhavan used to own an older one (or two). I remember Venkatraman using a black one and also it was used for foriegn dignitaries. I think its now replaced by Munich's finest, E66/67 -7er.

Poonavala is having a 600 Pullman, much older vesion that this one. Its photo is there in vintage car's section - thread on 'Classic Mercedes'. That one was used a President's car & he has bought it from Govt on auction

I've heard my mechanic saying that 1000SEL of a Sheikh used to come to his Garage when he was working in Saudi.

Rashtrapathi Bhavan never used a Beemer for President's car. Only Mercedes & I believe they have also used Cadillac. 7-er is used as Prime Mister's car, from last Govt onwards.

Saw the Golden 1000SEL in Mumbai at the International Airport and a couple of times on the road many years ago. Don't remember the year.
