Honda's new scalable platform, similar to VW's MQB & Toyota's TNGA

Honda announces the new Honda Architecture, which seems to be a scalable platform or module set similar to Volkswagen's MQB and Toyota's TNGA.

New flexible architecture will be used throughout the world, heavily slash trim variants and will help to significantly reduce car development costs.

The architecture will also help to strengthen inter-regional integration within Honda, while still allowing for the development of models targeted at particular regions, such as Japanese kei cars and large SUVs for the USA.

Quote:
it will be "eliminating and consolidating" some similar regional models sold across multiple regions. Just like the new platform vehicle, there's no word on which vehicles will be getting the "eliminating and consolidating" treatment from Honda.
Quote:
Since the vehicle will be introduced next year, expect it to be for the 2021 model year. It's tough to say which vehicle will be getting this platform first, as Honda has many global models: Civic, CR-V, Fit and HR-V.
Variant Reduction:

the number of variations currently available for its vehicles is too high, leading to excessive complexity and higher costs than necessary. To cure that problem, he said that Honda is going to slash the number of variations at the trim and option level for its global models to one-third of what it has now
On Electrification:

Quote:
Honda's electrification plans centre primarily around increasing the number of hybrid variants. With the next-generation Jazz/Fit, the company will launch a version of its i-MMD hybrid drivetrain suitable for smaller vehicles.

As far as pure electric vehicles are concerned, Honda will offer the Honda E in Europe and Japan. In China the company is developing models with its local production partners, while in the US it promises to "jointly develop battery components with General Motors and introduce highly-competitive battery EVs", although no specifics were given.

Re: Honda's new scalable platform, similar to VW's MQB & Toyota's TNGA

Is this another excuse to Overprice Honda from the current level of overpricing? Ford also had something similar, One Platform or something like that. Does not necessarily work.

If the markets have similar buying needs and patterns it might. Like South Asian treat hatchback alike (Family cars sorts), Europeans see it more as a performance, lifestyle. Amercian have big brawny cars/ Trucks. Wonder how they will cater to multiple markets.
