Dodge Viper / SRT 10 gets Sledgehammer Power!

The Dodge Viper!
One of the most ostentatious and impractical super-cars ever to come out of America!

First introduced as a concept by a financially troubled Chrysler Corp. in 1989, it finally made it to production in 1992.

The engine was knocked-off from a Dodge truck - a humongous 7.9l V10 made by adding on 2 cylinders to an already huge V8 to generate 400hp!

Beauty with a Beast: A truck-engine, rudimentary suspension, bone-jarring ride, ear-jarring sound, cheap interiors, a muscle-building clutch and gear shift coupled together with a ridiculously high price tag (add a $3000 gas-guzzler tax) couldn't stop this monster from quickly becoming the most lusted after sports-car in USA.

There was no denying it. This car grabbed your attention - took you by the horns (in Dodge speak). You couldn't miss it.

The engine was upgraded once in the mid-90's to produced 450hp but obviously this wasn't enough! In 2003 the capacity was pumped upto 8.3l to give out a very pleasing 500hp and 525lb-ft of torque.

The current engine bored to 8.4l has had it's bhp and torque figures increased by 10 each.
Here's a look at the beautiful monster:

Now, however, Dodge's SRT mechanics have gone bonkers!
The new 2008 Dodge Viper has been given Berserker Strength (Doom)!
It now outputs an IMMENSE!!! 600hp and 560lb-ft of torque!

yes but then there is a 1000 hp package for saleen said to be in under 2 sec to 60 mark but who knows, you can never connect the tires to get that great a time. Anyhow this production version would be not too shabby and even though its brand new in another few months there will be a 10k discount on it...hmmm...

Well, Marko Djuric ran a 1500+ bhp Supra, with a 1.056 0-60 mph time. Wonder how he managed to put that power down.

I've still not come to terms with the 8.5L engine in all the years its been in existence. I wonder whether Tata wouldnt mind replicating the same thing from one their lorry engines here and presenting the Indian supercar - the Indica XB (extra bonnet)

That's a 2-speed PowerGlide tranny. And some insane RON racing fuel. Not street-legal. Djuric runs 1500 odd horses on a street car with street boost and street gas. Of course, what street he lives on, heaven alone knows.

BTW: Titan Motorsports is owned by an Indian.

Finally the Viper is putting out half decent figures for an engine of that size. Yay.
