Just came across BMW Vision iNEXT concept photo LINK, and I started wondering what possibly the designers could have been smoking during this project

The CEO is stepping down because BMW has lost its long-held position as the number one premium automotive brand by global sales to Mercedes-Benz. In addition, CEO has been criticized internally for failing to increase investment in the company’s BMW i electric vehicle sub-brand following the launch of the i3 and i8 models.

I think the real reason ("The design") is standing just in front of them, look at the picture, how can they miss it?

The sharp comment about the huge grill sounded logical to me. The Automaker is clearly targeting Chinese buyers which is their biggest market for luxury cars.


A quick search led me to this old article where Chinese buyers are crazy about huge fancy grills considering it a status symbol.
Today since Chinese have a greater buying potential such grills may flood the market in near future until a new market comes up with a different taste

Got a chance to see in person on Highway and at Airport. From certain angles, it does looks imposing.

Took a look at the 7 in Park Lane (sorry, could only click through window as it was parked up close). I don't particularly like the grill but from the driver seat, it was sublime and I would not really care. If the grill was toned down into a body colour with discreet accents, that might help

How is the X7 priced lower than the 7? In the lower segments almost always the SUV is priced higher than the sedan counterpart (e.g. Creta vs Verna), right?
