As much as I dislike the grille on the current X cars, I honestly think after looking this 'actual pic' that the placement of the grille on the 7 gives it an aggressive and highly authoritative stance. I pretty much liked it and if I had to choose it on the basis of just exterior I might as well pick this over the current one. The Ghost is based on this so why shouldnt it have a grille almost of the size of the Ghost lol:

So Chinese looking!!! Why the boxy front with a massive grill, air vents and narrow headlights? Someone forgot the basics of a golden ratio. Even the rear end is now generic and bland, like a Honda or a Toyota. What is with the squarish lines on a luxury limo?

I think they'll eventually go from kidney beans to bug teeth. lol:

Wonder how much these new grills would affect the coefficient of drag Cd?

They'd help to improve the drag But that value can't be fixed as the name suggests they are dynamic.

See https://www.ford.com.au/technology/a...grill-shutter/ for more details.

Almost all OEMs have this technology in some form or the other.

These designs grow over you with time. I don't think the grille would affect its sales. People who wanted to buy it will buy it anyway.

This is the trend for some time now. Look at Audi, their Q8 is having a massive grille. For very facelift these companies come up with, they would slightly increase the size of the grille. We have our own VW Vento as an example. May be that’s the market trend, may be bigger grille equates to imposing look and that’s what all people need. Talking about the current Vento grille, I love the old grille more.

That's the image that comes to my mind when I see the 7's.

Guess BMW has hired some wackos in the design team!

The ultimate grille for the ultimate driving machine

I have to admit, besides the gawdy grill, I quite like the changes. The rear IMO is much better.

However, if I were in the market I would definitely get the pre facelift at a hefty discount just before the facelift was being launched. The interior design hasn’t changed much but I’m sure there will be more tech.
I negotiated one such deal on the previous gen for my family member on the prefacelift and it was 80 ex-showroom. Even if the new gen prefacelift can be had for below 1cr OTR it would be a great deal over the facelift.

The lightbar is a straight up copy from the new A8.
The headlights looks way similar to the products from Lexus stable.

I agree with you that the rear looks better/safer than the front, but I am at a loss of words for the overall design policy which BMW has lately adopted.

Additionally, SO much chrome!!

More of BMW 7-Series before its reveal tomorrow!

BMW 7- Series unveiled.

In the engine range, BMW ha, as expected, added the newly developed 4.4-liter V8 that debuted in the 8-Series and puts out 523hp (530PS) and 553lb-ft (750Nm) of torque in the 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive models. The highlight, however, is the updated plug-in hybrid 745e, which uses a new inline six powertrain with a combined output of 388hp (394PS) and 442lb-ft (600Nm) of torque and an all-electric range between 33 and 36 miles (54 and 58km).

The range-topping M760Li xDrive still uses a 6.6-liter V12, which has been updated with a gasoline particulate filter. Its 577hp (585PS) and 626lb-ft (850Nm) are enough the send the heavyweight 7-Series from 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.8 seconds and to a de-restricted 189mph (305km/h) top speed

European customers will also get to choose between three versions of a 3.0-liter straight-six diesel. Base 730d models feature a single turbocharger, producing 260hp (265PS) and 457lb-ft (620Nm) of torque. The 740d comes with twin turbos, 316hp (320PS) and 501lb-ft (680Nm) of torque. The most impressive diesel variant remains the 750d, with its three turbochargers, 394hp (400PS) and 560lb-ft (760Nm) of torque.

All variants of the new BMW 7-Series come with adaptive suspension as standard, with customers getting the option of rear-wheel steering for better handling and agility

I was hoping against hope that the leaks were wrong. The worst part is, the 7-Series leads the design for the other generations (especially the 5), so this ugliness is going to flow downward as well :Frustrati.

BMW needs to hire some American designers. One of the rare times an oversized / full grille looked good :thumbs up:
