Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV, which just made its public debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

With three rows of seats, an upscale interior and all the electronic gadgets today’s drivers expect, this utility vehicle should have everything it needs to compete with the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer and other popular midsize crossovers. Accordingly, it should have no issues taking the soon-to-be-retired Santa Fe XL’s place in the South Korean automaker’s lineup.

With seating for up to eight people and an overall length of about 196 inches, the Palisade lands in the heart of today’s utility-vehicle segment. Still, this is somewhat new ground for Hyundai. “For us it’s the largest SUV we’ve ever brought to market,” noted Mike O’Brien, vice president of product, corporate and digital planning at Hyundai Motor America.

Looks fantastic and way more butch and attention grabber than the Santa fe.

The Palisade seems quite inspired by the Escalade, or is it just me?

Looks good, just that I don't really dig Hyundai's new design language for the front.

True, from this view, but a much smaller version of it. The Escalade is huuuge!

Is it an SUV or a Hearse?

Sorry to say, but it looks downright ugly to my eyes!
It looks like someone slapped the back of an Air conditioner to it's face.

What's with the big grilles in flagships? Seems like the flavour of the season but a very distasteful one. First the BMW X7 and now this.

Yes the standard Escalade SUV is around 7 inches longer and the Extended version is around 25 inches more than this one!

However the Palisade is bigger than both Fortuner and Endeavor.

Korean Escalade eh?
Hmm!
But this really is a 7 seater monster. Even so, I’m not sure how much luggage space there will be if all 7 seats are being used.
The Merc V Class is amongst the best 7-8 seater vehicles I have ever sat in. Commonplace as an Airport Taxi in Europe. 1 seat in front alongside the driver. 3+3 seating configuration - with people facing each other and with sufficient leg room, in the mid section and plenty luggage space in the rear section.
Even so, the V Class works best and most luxuriously with just a Driver and 4 passengers so that everyone has plenty space and legroom and shoulder room etc.

Re: Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

Will definitely do better than the Equus & Genesis luxury lines . Important to note that it's branded as Hyundai - plain & simple. Got potential & will find its fans in USA. Happy to see Hyundai catching up in SUVs & Crossovers. In the last decade, Hyundai invested primarily in sedans, while the market moved to crossovers.

I love the side & rear design, but that radiator grille is UGLY.

Just one look at the first photo
Is this what premium, flagship models look like? It’s downright ugly. Maybe it’s different strokes for different folks.

Re: Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

This is the most American Hyundai has ever got!! The grill is where it screams Korean to me. But from any other angle, this is the big burly brute SUV Americans are fond of.

Re: Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

Hyundai couldn't succeed with their full size SUV Veracruz in USA in early 2010s . Hope they will be able to manage this.

Ideally this should have been released under the Genesis Badge so that they can play against Escalade.

Re: Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

I kind of like the "Bad A$$" gangsta look but then again its not timeless. It looks like it is big for the sake of being big. Contrast that to the new Mazda CX-9 which is even longer but carries its length much nicer and the overall styling is timeless too. A bit too late in the day?

Re: Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

There is significant interest in 3 row SUVs since the gas price drop. Subaru has the Ascent and even Lexus has the RX350L which is a stretched version of the original RX. This trend is likely to sustain until gas prices goes up.

Palisade seems to have taken it a step above the Sante Fe. Sales numbers will show soon. Top selling SUVs sell at least 10-15K unit a month. SF was on the bottom of that list.

Re: Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV

The Hyundai Palisade has just been awarded a 5-star crash test rating by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is the US government’s version of the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The Palisade SUV, which is available in front-wheel and all-wheel-drive form, received five stars in both, frontal and side crash tests.

The full-size, 7-seat SUV comes with safety kit such as seven airbags, Hyundai’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection technology, lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic collision detection and a driver attention warning as standard. Hyundai also provides a rear-occupant alert system that detects movement in the rear seats when the car is locked and alerts the driver by sounding the horn and via the Blue Link connected-car tech. The Palisade SUV also gets a safe exit feature that detects traffic when a door is about to be opened and warns occupants

With the optional LED headlights, the Hyundai Palisade is also the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) 2020 Top Safety Pick.
