Ferrari launches limited edition Monza SP1 & SP2

Quote:
The new Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 have been unveiled on occasion of the company’s Capital Market’s Day at the factory in Maranello. These limited-edition special-series cars are the first in a new segment called ‘Icona’ and draw inspiration from the most evocative Ferraris of the 1950s and feature the most advanced sports car technology available today.
I'll let the pictures do the talking

Aimed at dedicated clients and collectors, the Monza SP1 and SP2 reference the iconic Ferrari racing barchettas of the past, not least the 1948 166 MM, which originally inspired the name ‘barchetta’, and the 750 Monza and 860 Monza. Designed with the sole aim of winning, these uncompromising models helped build the Ferrari legend in the 1950s by delivering numerous victories in the World Sports Car Championship.

The Ferrari Monza SP1 was designed as an uncompromising single-seat road car that offers a truly unique experience behind the wheel. The second configuration, the Monza SP2, thanks to the elimination of the tonneau cover and the addition of a second protective screen and a second roll-bar, is instead a two-seater enabling the passenger to share the same driving sensations.

The Monza SP1 and SP2 feature a unique design, the best weight-to-power ratio of any barchetta, thanks to the extensive use of carbon-fibre in construction, and distinctive details, such as head-and tail-lights, wheels and interior, which further enhance the cars’ exclusivity. Equipped with the most powerful engine Maranello has ever built, a 810 cv V12, they can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

The architecture of the two cars is based on a monolithic form with an aerodynamic wing profile where the complete absence of a roof and windscreen gave the designers the freedom to create unique proportions that would not have been possible on a traditional spider.

The result is the feeling of blistering speed normally only experienced by Formula 1 drivers, which derives from the concept of a cockpit carved from the car’s very volume that wraps around the driver.

Truly a lovely car. I'd put this one above the Bugatti Divo, Chiron and the Mclaren series for design that is as fluidic as it can be and wow, what a stunning looker she is, just sheer piece Italian Lust of Engineering finesse.

Cheers!

Beautiful cars! But, this is Ferrari pulling off a Lamborghini
Both the Ferrari Monza SP1 & SP2 are based off of the 812 SF, just like the Lamborghini Veneno & Centenario being based off of the Aventador.

I think that these limited edition models bring a lot of extra attention to the brand, and of course a lot more money for essentially the same product with some new clothes and a bit more tech

Cheers

Though, this is not my choice of a Ferrari, for the fantasy garage i.e., Maranello has done full justice to the classic barchettas here. And with proper names to boot for a change!

A pic of the SP1 in case anyone is wondering how it looks from above.

The driver gets a virtual windshield which deflects a bit of air.

And the brave passenger of the SP2 doesn't get any protection from wind blast.

The Monza SP1 and SP2 are the two most beautiful modern-day Ferraris in my books !!

Such grace and charm of the 812's shape, add to that those lovely race hunches and delightful contours - the Monza twins are pure automotive porn.

The SP1 and SP2 are future classics. I am sure that after they hit production, the prices will only appreciate for both the variants even in the used supercar market.

I am waiting for the 1:18 scale models of both the variants now - that's the best way I can ogle at these beauties for the rest of my life.

Wow! Ferrari has silenced all those who criticised the 812's design with the Monza SP1 and the SP2. These cars, with the high-revving V12, should be a hoot to drive. Hope I get to see one of them soon.

Strangely, these beautiful cars do remind of other cars we've already seen. The SP1 reminds me of the rather ugly Veritas RS3 which once featured on Top Gear:

The SP2, on the other hand, reminds me of the equally stunning SLR Stirling Moss:

I wonder how many units of these cars Ferrari intend to build, and if any will ever come to India.

One thing is for sure. You will need a full face helmet to drive these cars on track.

Ferrari actually have a long history of limited editions, special editions and even one-offs - sometimes commissioned for VIP clients.

This is a fantastic rendition of the 812 and no doubt they'll probably already have sold out, or being close to selling out.

Here is a first look video of the Monza SP1 & SP2 at the Paris Motor Show.

The design of SP1 is simply breathtaking. One of the most beautiful creation of Ferrari. Driving it will be truly an experience.

Oh man..

What a beautiful piece of art.

I have been browsing the Ferrari APAC website for 4 hours now and the cars are just gorgeous!
Imagine just looking at them is so mesmerizing, what must they be to drive!

And the Configure option is just insanely good.
