McLaren Applied Technologies has announced a collaboration with Integral Powertrain and Hewland Engineering for a new e-axle system for hybrid and electric vehicles.
The Combined Traction Unit or CTU-400 is a 400 kW e-axle that features inverter technology developed by McLaren, a pair of 200 kW permanent magnet motors from Integral e-Drive and a pair of reduction gear sets for torque vectoring from Hewland Engineering.
The CTU-400 is claimed to be compact and lightweight, with a power density of 4.4 kW/kg and requires a single high voltage DC connection to the battery and a communication connection. The e-axle will make its debut at the 2018 Cenex Low Carbon Vehicle event.
In May 2017, Hewland and Hero Motors had formed a joint venture company called Hero Hewland Limited to provide high-volume powertrain solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEM). Link to Team-BHP News |
