Renault-Nissan have been near the front with this tech for a while and their policy has been to deploy it in mass market cars. The Renault ZoE and Nissan Leaf are prime examples.
Nissan have also released their Evalia as an electric both in passenger and cargo versions. It's called the NV200 here. On a personal usage note, as an electric car fan, I keep saying this. For your daily driver, you need nothing more than 75 km range, so it's electric all the way. Your sabzi-bhaji-office-school car should be bijli wala. The time has come.
That being said, the best way for us to move forward with Battery EV is public transportation. Buses, in cities, have predictable duty cycles, range, driving conditions, etc. It's the easiest way to go forward and I do hope that the trials in Mumbai lead to more such buses.
Read an article about NYC buses where they said 1 diesel-hybrid bus replaced by battery is equivalent to 27 private vehicles removed.
Just a bunch of thoughts on the EV subject. Glad a big group like Renault Nissan is leading the way. |
