Rumour: Lincoln Continental to be discontinued

According to a media report, Ford will discontinue the Lincoln Continental luxury sedan after the end of the current generation. The 10th generation car was showcased in 2015 as a concept, after a gap of 13 years and was later launched in 2016 in the USA.

The Lincoln Continental at one point also served as the US Presidential car between 1961 to 1977. It was also one of the last American factory-made cars to get a V12 engine. The Continental name has been in use for over 80 years and it has a 51-year production run. The media report also indicated that the low sales numbers are the primary reason for the discontinuation. In just 18 months, monthly sales numbers in the USA are down to 815 and 758 units respectively in the months of January and February 2018. The total American sales so far of the 10th-gen Continental stand at 18,846 while the General Motor's Cadillac XTS sold 29,082 units in the same period. Further, customer preferences for SUVs and pick-up trucks have also been a contributing factor to the low numbers.

Meanwhile, the higher priced Lincoln Navigator has been met with greater success. It shares its underpinnings with the Ford's F-Series pickup trucks which are popular in the US market.

Re: Rumour: Lincoln Continental to be discontinued

Another one bites the dust in the ongoing Sedanocalypse.

Lincoln looks pretty much directionless to me with their forgettable current crop of models, not to say their design philosophy are bland to say the least.

I am tempted to say the cliche dialogue, "if only it was RWD and had a V8" , but Lincoln should take a few lessons from their rival Cadillac.

Not a fan of Lincoln in their current state, but not pleased with a sedan going down for crossovers either.

But the sheer adjustable nature of the 30... yes... 30 way adjustable front seats, take the cake. Get this, the seat squab moves independently for each leg. Individually
