What is wrong in a BMW engine? they can be re-tuned to the requirement of the grenadier. Also LR has used BMW engine on the defender before. Even the 3.5L v8 on defenders were used in sports cars and saloons alike

Sorry but the 3.5 litre in the Defenders were the old Rover V8's derived from a Buick design. Earlier version of the last gen. Range Rover did have the 4.4 V8 BMW engine though.

Ineos is stressing about it being reliable and easy to repair. BMW engines are infamous for being complicated and difficult to repair. Their reliability isn't something they are praised for in recent years either.

It's all about

1: Conformance
2: Willingness of the manufacturer to sell
3: The price and reliability

Audi/VW - are scaling down on diesels.
Mercedes - rarely sell engines outside except to smaller specialist sports cars like Pagani
BMW - sells to Morgan, JLR shortly

No one else sells decent 6 cylinder Diesel engines nowadays.

Agreed. Quite sad that it is so.

I still wish Ineos had sourced a diesel from Ford, Chevy, or RAM. Their diesels are used extensively in pick-up trucks and are quite reliable.

I know the history of the 3.5L buick sourced V8 engine, but I just wanted to tell you the tune-ability of that engine. And I was'nt mentioning about BMW engines used on Range Rovers or Discoveries but the BMW 2.8i used on defender during the late 90s. May be if they could replace some of the plastic bits on the new engines, you never know how durable they could be

Ineos is ramping up to launch its Grenadier in the UK in July 2022, priced from around £48,000.

Ineos has detailed its UK retail strategy as it prepares to open pre-reservations on 30th September.

Re: Ineos Grenadier: Land Rover Defender-inspired SUV coming

Ineos will use Hyundai's fuel cell (FCEV) powertrain technology for a hydrogen-fuelled concept version of the Grenadier 4x4, which is highly likely to evolve into a series-production car.

As part of a wide-reaching plan to ramp up its investment in hydrogen technology, Ineos will build the prototype in partnership with UK-based engineering firm AVL, ahead of on- and off-road testing beginning by the end of 2022.

It is not yet confirmed exactly which powertrain the Grenadier FCEV will use. Hyundai currently sells the Nexo with a 95kWh fuel cell and a 159bhp EV motor

I am part of a social media group for Grenadier and I see a lot of people are asking for a refund of their booking amounts as the company keeps on postponing the launch dates. A lot of people have seen the prototypes and pre-production vehicles, but one major concern is that no one is seeing the production ready vehicles. Lets hope it gets sorted out soon as the car seems to have a lot of potential!

Re: Ineos Grenadier: Land Rover Defender-inspired SUV coming

Finally saw the Ineos Grenadier in flesh and it looks quite impressive! The build quality felt really good and the interior looks tough, appropriate for a proper offroader. The BMW sourced gearlever looks out of place though. Absolutely loved the overhead switches that looks straight out of an aeroplane, though only time will tell how useful they will be.
The dealer said that they will be able to arrange a test drive next month. Will update once I get the opportunity. For now, posting a couple of photos.

Awesome, I've been following the development and looking forward to the Grenadier. I do agree that the gear-lever looks out of place amongst the overall retro feel but considering the ZF gearbox has proven reliability, it doesn't bother me much.
Have been holding back on putting down the booking amount till they get the manufacturing sorted out; also first model year anxiety.

Re: Ineos Grenadier: Land Rover Defender-inspired SUV coming

Some pics of the Grenadier i clicked at the Brisbane 4x4 show last month. The cars really look built for purpose and can easily be classified as offroad ready, right off the showroom floor.

The cabin with the airplane style switches has a charm of its own, however the BMW style gear lever is a hit or miss, depending on your inclination.

The cars had a lot of interest from folks checking them out, so the sales numbers will be interesting to see. The sales folks were really friendly and patient in explaining features of the car and seemed to know what they were talking about.

@Blackpearl, @benbsb29 : Did you guys get a chance to follow on the pricing of Grenadier in UK and AUS respectively?

It is now launched here in Finland and the prices are staggeringly high. In fact, at 148,000 EUR for a Trialmaster Station Wagon, it is more expensive than a LR Defender. It is no longer the cut-price Defender I was expecting it to be.

I have seen many on the road in Switzerland and Germany. There must be something unique that is attracting buyers despite its price.
