Volvo teases next-gen V60 estate. EDIT: Now revealed

Volvo has released a video revealing some details of the new V60. Titled 'Designed for generation', the video showcases some of the Volvo estates through the generations. A couple of spy images have also surfaced online, which could be part of the promotional material of the car.

The V60 will be based on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and is likely to be powered by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. Hybrid options are expected to be offered along with the petrol engines.

The car looks very similar to its larger sibling - the V90, except for some changes. From the video, we can see that the V60 gets a quarter glass on the rear doors, a large panoramic sunroof, quad-exhausts at the back and an electric tailgate.

The Volvo website mentions that the car will be revealed through Facebook Livestream on February 21, 2018. The company will be showcasing the car at the next month's Geneva Motor Show.

Re: Volvo teases next-gen V60 estate; spy images leaked

Looks more beautiful than the V90 Cross Country currently being sold here.
Will V60 be coming to India?

Looks so elegant and understated. I hope that they launch it in the normal spec and not the cross country setup.

So the S60 should also be similarly styled. Volvo gets its new cars fairly quickly to India, so the S60 could be hear soon.
Not sure about the V60 however. Haven't seen a lot of the V90 in Chandigarh. In fact I remember seeing just one.
Pity because estates make so much more sense to me rather than SUVs.

Volvo V60 estate revealed

Volvo has revealed the next-gen V60 estate. The price of the car will be revealed at a later date. It will be available for direct purchase as well as on a monthly flat-fee subscription basis called Care by Volvo.

On the outside, the car looks similar to its larger sibling - the V90. The most prominent changes are to the bumpers. The car gets a sloping roofline, sharp creases and 'Thor's hammer' headlights. At the rear, there are large LED tail lamps, and a revised bumper with twin chrome-tipped exhaust tips and a small spoiler.

The interiors feature an all-black or beige and black theme with chrome and driftwood inserts. The car also gets a vertically mounted infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G connectivity options and a panoramic sunroof.

The V60 is based on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that underpins the XC60 as well as the 90-series cars. When it goes on sale, the V60 will be offered with a choice of two plug-in hybrid options and all-wheel drive with combined power outputs of 335 BHP and 385 BHP in T6 and T8 variants respectively. Apart from these, the V60 will also be offered with two petrol (T5 and T6) and two diesel (D3 and D4) engine options.

It has also been revealed that the car will be equipped with safety features such as autonomous braking, pilot assist up to 130 km/h, run-off road mitigation, oncoming lane mitigation and other steering assistance systems. An optional cross traffic alert with autobrake will also be available.

Re: Volvo V60 estate revealed

Really struggling to find any difference between this and the V90. Don't even feel these two are all that different in sizes as well - atleast in pictures. Need to go back and check some numbers.

XC90 and XC60 complement each other in a much better fashion, when compared to their estate versions.

Got to hand it to Volvo's new designs - they make even an estate look so darn good . So proportionate, so classy and so contemporary. Dare I say, the overall stance is similar to German cars.

Still, it'll have limited appeal as estates are dead in almost all countries, except for some parts of Europe. SUVs have taken the fizz out of their market.

I think the problem is that they are trying to compete with SUVs. They should instead target a much weaker and boring opponent which outsells SUVs in the western world. The "Minivan".

The Volvo estate is the mainstay for Europe. It also has limited appeal in the US. Especially when they bring out the Cross Country versions

I love it

All of Scandinavia is full of estates. In fact it is super rare to spot a sedan over there. All taxis, personal cars, police cars, emergency vehicles, almost everything on the road was an estate. Even 99% of rental cars were estates.

Curious to know: apart from the name, what is the difference between an "Estate" and a "Crossover" or "Crossover SUV"? Lower stance of the Estate? I mean, if they sell this car as a "spacious 5-seater SUV", how one can find fault with it?

The border line is very thin now. Peugeot is making their MPVs as SUVs now. Some are selling raised hatch backs as SUVs. So, this one should be aptly called as a spacious SUV or crossover than an Estate, IMO.
