Skoda will reportedly debut a new crossover at the Beijing Auto Show. It is called the Kamiq and it will be positioned below the Karoq in the Chinese market. The Kamiq is expected to go on sale in China around June 2018.



According to a media report, the Kamiq has a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. The SUV measures 4,390 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width and has an overall height of 1,593 mm, which makes it slightly smaller than the Karoq.



In terms of design, the Kamiq has a familiar front fascia. The front grille has a chrome frame and is flanked by wraparound headlamps. The twin-pod headlights feature projector lights. The Skoda logo is placed a rib that runs across the bonnet. Besides this, the front bumper has a large air dam and LED DRLs placed on either side. The rear features wraparound tail lights and a dual-tone bumper. A higher variant of the Kamiq is expected to be offered with dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails and a sunroof.



A media report suggests that in China, the Kamiq will be powered by a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 108 BHP. However, there is no information about the transmission options that will be offered on the Kamiq. It is unclear whether the crossover SUV will get an all-wheel drive option.



The Kamiq is likely to be built at the Shanghai Volkswagen joint venture facility. Meanwhile, Skoda plans to launch the Karoq in India sometime in 2018 but there is no word on the Kamiq being offered in India anytime soon.

This car is indeed confusing and really throws one off. Initially I thought this is the skoda badged older Tiguan version which is still on sale in China. But now looking closer this is not possible as that wasn't MQB and the specs don't match.

Vw Tiguan has TSI engines but this has some 1.5L petrol that's not seen on VW vehicles.

I did some digging and I am not at all sure but I am having a big hunch on this.

Volkswagen / Skoda in China is a JV between SAIC and VW. SAIC have a few other brands and one of the brands is Roewe.

Now Roewe has a very popular SUV called the RX5. This SUV was termed the internet car as it was a tie up between SAIC, GM and Alibaba. It ran on alibaba's Yun OS with powertrains from GM.

Looking at the Roewe Rx5, the design has a lot of similarities with the Kamiq. However specs like wheelbase aren't the same so this brings some doubt.

Moreover it would be a very concocted partnership between VW, SAIC and GM.

However another interesting story I read when reading up on Skoda and Roewe. Both Skoda and Roewe launched a concept called the Vision e in April 2017 at the Shanghai Auto show....Both claimed that the 2 vehicles should not be confused. Coincidence?

Take a look at both the Vision E's from Skoda and Roewe. The design has some uncanny similarities!!!

Skoda Kamiq unveiled in China

Skoda has unveiled the Kamiq SUV. The car will be displayed at the Auto China 2018 and is scheduled to be launched after two months.

The Kamiq measures 4,390 mm long, 1,781 mm wide, 1,593 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. It will be the smallest SUV in Skoda's SUV line-up and is expected to be positioned below the Karoq and Kodiaq in the company's SUV line-up.

The Kamiq gets a black, dual vertical slat grille that is flanked by twin-pod headlamps, while the grille is surrounded by a chrome border. A full-width air dam with a single horizontal chrome stripe and hexagonal vents sits below the grille. The vehicle gets twin 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and a chrome strip below the side windows. At the rear, there is a dual-tone bumper and horizontal tail lights with separate reflector strips below them.

Earlier this year, images of a lower variant of the Kamiq surfaced online. However, there were no details available about the interiors of the car. Skoda has now revealed that the SUV will get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with compatibility for Apple CarPlay, Baidu Carlife and MirrorLink, while offering voice control and navigation functions. The system will also be able to provide real time updates on traffic, weather and POI notifications among others.

The Kamiq will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 109 BHP and 150 Nm of torque. It will be paired with an automatic transmission.

Skoda is likely to produce the Kamiq at Volkswagen's joint venture facility in Shanghai. The company has not revealed any plans to introduce the car in India.

This one looks stunning for the price and if priced right, will give a good competition for Creta, Duster, Ecosports and the likes. I hope they bring it in India in no later than 2019. Skoda's design team has been brilliant in last few years and they are producing some great looking cars for almost every segment. Compared to these VW seems a bit old school these days. If this is their replacement for Yeti in India, this will be a hit, atleast as per Skoda standards in India.

The latest iteration of the Skoda Kamiq which is getting launched in Europe looks really interesting. This will be first shown at the Geneva motor show , which begins in the Mar first week. The new Kamiq also features Harrier style headlights and DRL, though they look a bit smarter due to the sharper angles.
