Aston Martin Vantage - First Look

Not sure whether that grille will grow on me. The older cars were so beautiful. A lot comments on youtube say it looks like a Mazda MX5

re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

NO NO NO. Its like the car lost its lower teeth along with the jaw!! Why would you do that? Emulate Porsche on this. Do not fix whats not broken. The 911 looks exactly how it did 20 years ago. Astons were beautiful. No one ever bought an Aston because it drove like it was on rails (ferrari) or like it wanted to kill you (lambo). People bought Astons because they looked like a bomb! This one is just hideous.

re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

I guess Aston Martin had to do something when Ford stole their front end

It still does look beautiful and I'm sure it would be a proper Aston in the drive and comfort. But seeing the engine option(I think its also available in the DB11), I'm worried that these Supercars are losing their individuality perhaps? As much as the tuning is varied An AMG and Aston now have the same engine that probably doesn't suit one of them as well and nor is the powertrain so exclusive. I'm sure it makes financial sense for Aston, but its a little disappointing.

re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

I like the new design on the Vantage, except for the front-end which looks uncannily similar to a Tesla.

I agree it has lost some grace, but still looks fantastic and very striking specially in fluorescent shades.

The other Aston Martins do have enough grace, the Vantage can definitely become the sportier car amongst the other stablemates.

Googled a few images, can't stop drooling at that interior which is a significant step-up from the boring interior design in the earlier Vantage/DB9.

re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

That has lost AM's factory elegance and taken on a lot of aftermarket crap.
I love that P1 styled rear but the front is all kinds of sad. All Astons recently looked amazing, and felt timeless. There was no concept of the look "growing" on you. Not with this, though. This may look OK for some people right now, but I dont think this will be as good looking 20 years down the line, like the previous ones, no?

New Aston Martin Vantage with 503 BHP AMG V8 unveiled

Aston Martin has unveiled the new Vantage. Deliveries of the two-seater sports car are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2018.

The new Vantage replaces the model that was on sale since the last 12 years. It features revised styling with a new grille at the front new LED headlamps and side vents that merge into the doors. The car gets shorter front and rear overhangs, while tail lights are full width units that are contoured according to the shape of the car. It does not get a spoiler, but there is a rear diffuser. It also gets new 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 255/40 front and 295/35 rear Pirelli P Zero tyres.

On the inside, the car's centre console gets transmission buttons, arranged in an inverted "V" shape with a black space in the middle. The infotainment system is run on Mercedes' COMMAND interface, while its controller sits just behind the black space on the centre console. There is a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifts that is shared with the DB11. The interiors feature a dual-tone theme. Owners will be able to customize the various trims and upholstery with a choice of materials and colours.

The Vantage is powered by an all-aluminium, AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged, 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine that produces 503 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 685 Nm @ 2,000-5,000 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels by an 8-speed ZF transmission. The company claims that the car can do a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 314 km/h. It is not known whether the Vantage will come with a manual transmission.

The Vantage is based on the DB11's aluminium architecture. It is the first Aston Martin to get an e-diff that is linked to the car's electronic system. Braking duties are handled by 400 mm ventilated disk brakes with 6 piston calipers at the front and 360 mm ventilated disk brakes with 4 piston calipers at the rear. The car gets electronic assist systems like dynamic torque vectoring, adaptive dampening and dynamic stability control. Additionally, the driver can choose from Sport, Sport Plus and Track driving modes.

Re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

I believe that Aston Martin makes the best looking cars in the world. They're elegant, royal, sporty, classy and many more adjectives! The DB11 and now this Vantage - my god, they're droolworthy. Except, the front face - I don't like the big grill.

I hope the car manufacturers don't go down further this road - we've seen them on many cars now - the R8, the entire Lexus line up. :(

Re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

After the Vanquish and DB11, which I believe are the most beautiful cars in production, this is a bit of a shocker. I'm not a fan of the front end and some of the fittings look aftermarketish. That fluorescent paint is also rather difficult to digest on an Aston. The car definitely looks a lot more acceptable in the silver-gray shade. Overall, the car looks more performance focused than a GT, which most Astons have been.

The interior is OK, but I see a lot of buttons. For the sake of the driver, I hope they are logically arranged.

What will be good is the AMG engine that it uses. I expect this thing to be properly quick. I hope they do make it with a manual gearbox.

I think it will be a good product for the company in terms of attracting a younger clientele. Traditional Aston buyers and enthusiasts might not be too impressed.

Re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

One of the best looking Aston I must say.

That rear flowing tail lamps just looks stunning, and the overall Car is also very clean in its design. Not very busy as Mclaren designs.

Engine carried over from AMG

I wonder what's stopping them from having a deal in Formula1 for Engine's in their RedBull team?

Re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

Contrary to the public opinion here, I quite like the new design.

Looks Racy, rather than elegant. But, still overall Charming!

That front end looks a bit unfinished. A bit like those modified cars running around Kerala. Mesh grille and that Samurai bumper lip.

I feel the main problem is with the pattern of that mesh. Should be more detailed coming from an exotic manufacturer. It looks very plain and aftermarket now.

Here is how the Vantage fares against the mighty GT3.

Re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

It seems the traditional Aston Martin grille is now making way for a traditional Aston Martin bumper. The front looks very Nissan 350Z'ish and the back looks too crowded with mismatching design.

Re: Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage

Aston Martin teases a picture of a new Vantage on their Instagram page -
Aston Martin launches the next-gen Vantage-650acc59b148413a91d5f4747dd2a97c.jpeg

This is either a new Variant (like a Vantage GT12) or a facelift Vantage.

Only 3 things are clear from the picture -
1. It has a fixed rear wing (the sort of wing you’d expect to see on a Vantage GT12)

2. It has the Vaned grill and not the mesh grill

3. It has a slightly re designed rear end.

Say hello to the Vantage F1 Edition – a road-going version of the F1 safety car-spec Vantage. It costs from £142,000, around £20,000 more than a normal Vantage, and is on sale right now. It’s available as either a Coupe or Roadster, and the first customers ought to get their cars in May.

We’re told the F1 Edition “is the most track-focused production Vantage to-date”, and that the main objective during its development was “to significantly improve lap time performance… without compromising its on-road capabilities” and “without the fitment of aggressively track-optimised tyres”.

The 4.0-litre Mercedes-derived V8 is up from 503 to 528bhp. Torque is the same as before at 505lb ft, but now the peak is “sustained for longer to further increase tractability and in-gear urgency”. The eight-speed auto has been beefed-up to cut shift times and “increase the feeling of directness and precision”. And no, you can’t have the seven-speed manual from the Vantage AMR.

Structural stiffness is up, while reworked dampers should give better body control over crests and high-speed compressions without “any deterioration in low-speed compliance”. The spring rates are different, the steering has been retuned for better feel and there are new 21-inch alloys shod with special Pirelli rubber. The aero kit, including that big spoiler and new front splitter, adds 200kg of downforce at top speed.

Aston’s signature Racing Green colour scheme – as used by the F1 safety car and the company’s F1 team – is available in either gloss or matte finishes. You can have another colour if you’d prefer. Inside there’s lashings of leather and Alcantara with a choice of brightly-coloured contrast stripes.

This is the first of Aston’s ‘core’ models to “benefit from direct input” from Aston’s new boss Tobias Moers. Of the Vantage F1 Edition, he said: “It had to be a true athlete: more powerful; more agile; more immediate and more exciting to drive. And - of course - quicker and more capable in a race-track environment. I set the engineering team a tough target, as I was insistent that gains in performance came via genuine improvements in the car’s dynamics, and not by fitting track-optimised tyres.”
