That makes perfect sense and puts things in perspective, looks a heck of a lot better this way. Takes the family look a bit far, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Passat is a real looker, a shame this baby most likely won't make it to our shores.

re: Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta spied without camouflage. EDIT: Launched

I don't think this is camouflaged. This is just a lower model or PPP car with black door handles.

However even if you make the grill in chrome I am not liking the front end. One is the front grill is just too big. Secondly what is with the cuts on the side of the grill. It cuts inwards then outwards then again inwards. The grill is huge hexagonal but there is another small part above the hexagon.

I like the silhouette but the front is overdone and not VW classy with the grill. The rear is nice but I hope those small tail light extensions don't make it into the asia spec car.

There may not be any tape.. if we see the photo there is a clear 3D plastic bumper lip where there grille ends travelling from the base of the headlamps, below the grille and over to the other side.

Unlike the Passat image, the Jetta clearly has thick black polished chrome borders in the top and bottom of the grille, and just like the new Polo it has a 3-split base black inserts. The base of the main grille indeed seems to be going downwards forming a hexagon.

I have no problems with this design though, if anything the slightly boring looks are no more a part of VW, things got a lot interesting both up front and in the back. Finally VW is making good looking cars again and lets face it, there are only so many things they can do to differentiate from their previous design and all of them would make them seem guilty of copying some or the other brand though it may be purely coincidental.. Hyundai has been bearing the brunt of such accusations for a better part of a decade now.

Jetta MK5 was the most beautiful VW ever.. by a hundred miles. Hope VW brings more curves in future, moving away from the previous square design is a start.

EDIT: Here's a photo and article link on the Passat GT 2018.. SAME design as the Jetta in this page, now its confirmed this is VW's new signature. AutoBlog

re: Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta spied without camouflage. EDIT: Launched

Absolutely love the side & rear profiles - find it damn classy . The front is also good, except for that ugly grille! What was VW thinking? This is so unlike the usually clean & proportionate design philosophies of the company.

The new Jetta does appear to be longer. Being based on the MQB, I hope it doesn't take a step back in build quality as the new Octavia did. And please, don't give it a cheap torsion beam rear suspension in ANY variant.

I hope you are right. The weird grille is killing the face which is the most important part of any design.

Next Gen Jetta will debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and will go sale in spring 2018.

The Jetta will launch in the MT configuration and Jetta GLI arriving later.

the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will be available with an R-Line appearance package, a popular choice for other Volkswagen models. The add-on will be the first for the Jetta.

NEXT GEN JETTA will not be offered in India.

Will Virtus takes its place as it goes more premium than Vento and adds up to VW's strategy of going 'Premium'.

Quote:
The reason? Well, it seems the Wolfsburg-based brand will not be producing the seventh-generation version of the sedan in right-hand drive.

First the new gen Polo and now the Jetta! Not enough numbers to justify the presence of the Octavia and the Jetta in our market I guess. That's a shame really. The Jetta is in a different league when compared to the Vento and was a real alternative to the entry level luxury badges and for Skoda haters . Sad to know that competent cars like these are not coming to our shores when the previous gen is already here.

Teasers to the 2019 Jetta continue,
Quote:
The 2019 Jetta is slightly larger than the current one, growing almost two inches in length and about an inch in width, which makes it two to three inches longer than the Civic and the Corolla although otherwise similar in size

Proto Drive review:

Quote:
In the rear, we saw a trailing torsion-beam axle, which was one of the cost-cutting changes, later reversed, that were applied to the sixth-gen car. Now it’s back
Quote:
torsion-beam axle is fitted with hydraulic bushings where it mounts to the structure to provide a better mix of precision and compliance.
Quote:
There are disc brakes all around—and VW continues with electrically assisted power steering of the dual-pinion type

Quote:
At 80 mph or so, the cabin was quiet, with minimal wind, road, and engine noise, and the ride was very good, although the pavement collaborated by being near perfect. Steering feel was precise on-center and the car changed lanes smartly and predictably, but we might have wanted a bit more weight at that speed
Quote:
The only downside was that the stability control engaged prematurely. The engagement wasn’t abrupt, but we felt torque reductions as we were approaching the car’s limits

Quote:
Overall, however, the Jetta’s liveliness and willingness to do other than simply understeer is welcome in this class of car.

re: Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta spied without camouflage. EDIT: Launched

2019 Volkswagen Jetta launching today at the Detroit Auto show with an evolutionary design and loads of new Tech.

The Jetta will be offered with a 6-year or 72,000-km warranty, and its price starts at $ 18,545 dollars - less than the current model!

Riding on VW’s award-winning MQB platform, the seven-generation Jetta has the same structure that underpins cars like the Golf and Audi A3, among others. The new Jetta is completely rebuilt from the ground up.

Quote:
The new Jetta measures 4.702 mm in length (+43 mm) and the wheelbase has been elongated by 35 mm to 2,686 mm. To put this in perspective: the dimensions of the Jetta that is offered in the US are equivalent to those of the European Passat.

Compared to the Jetta of the sixth generation, the front balance was shorter (-10 mm) and the longer rear (+18 mm). This gives the new Jetta a sporty look, more extended and more elegant. The Volkswagen is 1.799 mm wide (+21 mm) and 1.459 mm high (+6 mm). According to its exterior dimensions, it offers more space for head and knee, as well as increased shoulder room and greater interior height. The long rear protrusion also creates a load capacity of 510 liters - an unchanged value of the previous model

Quote:
The Jetta’s cabin has gone from clinical to upscale thanks to high-quality materials, 10-color ambient lighting that wraps around the interior, and funky trapezoidal design pieces – like the vents. The redesigned center stack now features a larger screen – exact dimensions haven’t been released yet – that’s angled towards the driver and perched higher up on the dash. VW’s new, highly-configurable Digital Cockpit replaces the sedan’s regular instrument cluster on high-end trims
Quote:
Power for the sedan comes from a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 148 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The old sedan’s six-speed automatic gearbox has been ditched in favor of an eight-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual transmission is standard.

re: Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta spied without camouflage. EDIT: Launched

The 2019 Jetta on sale in US.

US consumers should know that the order books for the new Jetta will open this spring. Prices will start from $18,545 without the destination charge, which makes it $100 more affordable than its predecessor, and $4,450 more economic than the slightly larger Passat

Quote:
Motivation comes from the same 1.4-liter four-banger of its predecessor, which continues to develop 148hp (150PS) and 184lb-ft (249Nm) of torque, married to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Those who would rather have an automatic will be glad to know that a new and more efficient 8-speed unit replaces the old 6-speed DSG.

re: Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta spied without camouflage. EDIT: Launched

To me, it looks like a reworked Audi design. Somehow the front grill just doesn't work for me - the VW cars for me always worked in terms of design cause of their straight, soft and uncluttered lines. It was Ranbir Kapoor earlier and has transformed to Ranveer Singh - the grill, the audi'sh lines and the blazing red.

re: Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta spied without camouflage. EDIT: Launched

New Jetta will not be launched in Europe as VW explains it could overlap with Passat, where sedans are anyway losing their positions on the market.
Two quite similar sedans make no business case.

India plans for Jetta are ruled out as Virtus could move into that segment. ( VW is not expected to produce the sedan for right-hand-drive markets like South Africa, India and the UK.)

Quote:
While a version of the sedan for the Chinese market is planned under the name Sagitar, in a new extensive press release, detailing the characteristics of the vehicle, Volkswagen says it has no intentions for a European variant.
