In Australia a majority of the taxis are Holden Commodore & Ford Falcons.
Toyota Camry's are increasing in numbers though. Have also seen a few Prius cabs

In Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah, its Toyota Camry which is ruling the roost as taxis. Also found in abundant numbers are Chevrolet Epicas and of late Hyundai Sonatas.

I really wish that our Indian cities will one day be devoid of the Omnis and we get to travel in something like this.

In Hongkong we can see only Toyota Comfort CNG,Red and silver top painted,a very strudy car, in Macau we can see Toyota Corrola,Painted in Black and red, same shape what we have at present in India, we can also see Honda Accord,

In guangzhou we can see Hyundai Sonata, Honda civic, all above vehicles in immaculate condition duly washed and polished full with working power windows, AC, Music system, Car freshners, many times with leather seat covers and with chinese music CDs playing, untempered electronic fare meters, wireless communiction sets, Alloy wheels, Tubeless tyres, dashboards fully covered with all types of stuffed dolls, cats, tigers, and what not.All the drivers I came accross were very neat clean immaculately dressed in simple but clean clothes, polite, honest, ready to help.

In Macau I took taxi to my hotel all alone at 4.25AM from Venetian Casino and the driver made no extra demands for fare, infact he asked me if in the day time if I want to see the town he can come to pick me up I thanked him and in the end he said good night sir.

But can we expect this in Amchi Mumbai?
At least not in this century, but we do have faulty or tempered fare meters, cheap songs on cheap music system blaring at top volume, smelly drivers with shirt buttons open till navel, drivers with mouths full of Manickchand,Goa, Rajnigandha , Panparag, torn seats, worn out tyres, smokey exhausts, no or folded ORVM.

We have to ask the driver if he can take us to our destination, the idiot may think three times how much money he can make out of this? If not satisfied he will say these following terms which their so called illitrate and stupid union leaders have taught them to use them in situations like this-
  1. Gas nahin hai (Inspite of full gas tank)
  2. Ghar Jaa Raha Hoon,
  3. Biwi Ki dawa lene ko Jaa raha hoon.
  4. Khana khane jaa raha tha,
  5. Gaadi Kharaab Hai.
  6. Ulti aa rahi hai sahab.
  7. Matha dukh raha hai.
  8. RTO se jama kiya licence lene jaa raha hoon.
  9. Meter kharaab ho gaya hai.
......and many more I may have forgotton

Last but not least above all they just dont look at you and pass off. In my case I just sit directly in the cab or rickshaw and then tell him my destination if he makes any excuse I remove my cell and pretend that I made call to traffic dept and start talking in marathi giving information like Gaadi no, my name is, Calling from Andheri, I wanted to go to, this rickshaw is refusing to go, driver is not giving his name, by this time this idot says Baith jayie sahab aap to complain karne lage. iispolice ne hamara jeena dubhar kar diya hai.. He is not knowing that police is more serious now with this refusal fare matter offence I Feel like giving two to three tight ones on his face (KAAN KE NEECHE BAJANE KO DIL KARTA HAI).

@Iqbal Veerji

WOW, you have some great experience with Taxi walas in Mumbai. I believe Mumbai Taxi walas are one eyed man amongst blinds in taxi industry of India.

Coming back to topic, it will be good to add Logan as widely used cab in India now, thanks to Meru & Easy cabs

I also find VW Passats and older Mercedes w211's also !!!

Been travelling all around China

Beijing - Hyundai Elantra's with a few VW Santana's (since Hyundais are made in that province)

Chengdu - VW Jetta's (old ones and the latest ne known as the Sagitar)

Xian - mainly BYD's with the odd VW, Citroen thrown in. Airport drops are done in Hyundai Sonata's or Camry's

Shanghai - VW Santana's although Passats and Tourans are being added

Singapore - Old Toyota Crowns, Hyundai Sonata's which sound a bit creaky and Merc E220 D's w212. These are imprssive. I sat in one with 520000km on the clock. You would never know!

I had visited Antwerpen & Brussels in Belgium in the early 90's. Almost all the cabs were black Mercerdes & BMW's, I think. I have no idea which models.

Singapore : The Toyota Crowns are getting replaced increasingly by Hyundai Sonatas. There are also E-class delux taxies and Merc Vans (for airport transfer)

Shanghai : VW Santana

US : Ford Crown Victoria

Western Europe (Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria...) : Merc E class
Germany: Also some Audi and Skoda Superb

Italy has a mix match including the surprisingly spacious Fiat Multipla

True ajmat. Have used them a couple of times, skipped my mind -they have a different logo on the bonnet (not the usual Skoda one). Nothing beats the Crown (including the Superb) for space and practicality (both in cabin and the boot). The engine is noisy though and now, the remaining ones have started showing their age.

Bangkok/Thailand is full of pink/yellow/red/orange Toyota Corollas. Of course, they all happen to be 1.4L (base) variants that have been thrashed for years on the streets of Bangkok. They invariably smell of fish/shrimp paste, the drivers haven't heard of cleanliness, and almost every panel inside rattles.
