Well, ford have finally released images of the face lifted version of the 2018 Mustang. For the first time, Ford will be ditching the V6 engine for the new model year.

"After a successful career of almost two-and-a-half years on the market, the sixth-gen Ford Mustang is getting its awaited facelift for the 2018MY.

The mid-life refresh brings on a tweaked face for the 2018 Ford Mustang, courtesy of the new headlights, redesigned front bumper, a wider front grille and a resculpted bonnet that’s 20mm lower. At the back, we see new C-shaped rear light clusters, the diffuser that is now finished in black, and in the GT, a small rear wing.

The big news is that Ford is ditching the 3.7-litre V6 option from the range as it was already the weak member of the sales chart, with the company focusing instead on the 2.3-litre EcoBoost and the 5.0-litre V8 versions which now gain a new 10-speed automatic gearbox option.

The manual gearbox that’s paired with the 5.0-litre V8 has also been upgraded with a twin-disc clutch and a dual-mass flywheel while the new ten-speed automatic is said to offer faster shift times and responses than the outgoing six-speed automatic.

Personally speaking, I think the 2016 model looks waay better.

(Mods, tried to post this in the exiting Mustang thread but it seems to be closed, hence created a new one)

I think it looks more muscular now and more devilish. Kinda like the Jaguar design language.

This car is one of the rare cars which caters to environmentalists (Eco Boost) and the muscle car aficionados (V8). Nice!

As long as the 8-cylinder continues to be offered, I have no complaints.

That said, I'm surprised they dropped the V6. It was the cheapest engine available. This means that the Mustang's starting price will climb a bit. A six-cylinder also sounds better on paper than a 4-banger. But then, the 4-cylinder EcoBoost makes more power & torque than the 6, so...

I think Ford just handed some V6 buyers over to the Camaro.

The decision seems to be driven by sales data. Quoting from ArsTechnica:

Ars spoke to Corey Holter, Ford’s Marketing Manager for Car and Cross Vehicle Marketing, about the updates to the car. He emphasized that the EcoBoost has been successful in bringing new customers into Ford’s mix, especially millennials, people of color, and women.
It appears that new buyers (i.e. fascinated by the Mustang name and the history they heard) gravitate towards the EcoBoost, especially after a TD that gives them that sweet torque curve.

Purists instead choose the NA V8, leaving the V6 in the lurch. This is not a utility car but a lifestyle statement, so anyone who could afford the V6 could probably pony up the difference to either the EcoBoost or V8.

I love turbo-petrols. But if I'm buying a muscle car like the Mustang, I'd only go for the NA - they really go hand-in-hand.

As an aside, here's a view of the instrument cluster - a nice balance between modernity, while retaining analogue dials (although they are not physical dials). The glow behind the needles will also make it easier to locate the approximate position of the needle out of the corner of the eye.

I'm not surprised. When I traveled to the US during summer, the general opinion among the people that the V6 has lost it's charm after the EcoBoost was launched.

I have to agree with you: MUSTANG = V8. No two ways about it.

So what is the Mustang now?A JDM killer thanks to the boosted 4 or a Euro Bruiser thanks to the OHC V8; no longer a pushrodded big bore V8 for sure. Its a slick car for sure but has completely moved away from the Muscle Car theme that Dodge and Chevy still stick to.

I have driven the V6 and the Ecboost. I'll take the V6 any day because it is a fun car to drive for cheap. The automatic gearbox is the party pooper here and is always in two minds.

I did not like how the 2018 has been designed in the front. It scoops down a little too aggressively. However, I'm really pleased to see optional features such as the lovely magnetic ride and the active valve exhaust. The instrument cluster looks fantastic ! The 10 speed auto ? I'll reserve my comments on it.

Pricing has been a tricky affair at the higher end thanks to the Camaro with the SS packages. I hope Ford gets the pricing attractive enough especially for the GT Premium classes.

On the other hand, in 2018, a used 2016 GT 350 will be a mouth watering prospect, considering that some of its standard features are coming in to the GT/Ecoboosts !

Not driven either of those options, but based on what I've read online, I think I'd prefer a silky smooth naturally-aspirated 6-cylinder over a less-refined turbo-4 (with lag).

Well said! The Mustang has matured and is recording strong sales in Germany too. It's definitely not the wonky straight-line muscle car it once was. Car is far more impressive now.

So true. I wish Ford offered the MT in India. As it's a CBU, the effort is literally zero. Speaking of CBUs, I guess we'll be getting the facelift here soon.

Ford has unveiled the 2018 Mustang convertible. And also, some more professional pictures of the hard top for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Don't miss the different shades and rims :D

Great to see the Mustang 2018 coming to India. Just a few thoughts from me, as I was considering the 2017 Mustang V6 (Heavily discounted) VS the Mustang 2018 Ecoboost.

I went for the Mustang 2018 Ecoboost because of two main reasons -

1) Torque - Its addictive, it really is to be honest. I was initially locked in for a grabber blue V6, and I couldn't believe the price I was getting it at, simply because there is very less demand for them. But once I test drove the Ecoboost, I just couldn't deny it was a superior car and against my heart, had to spend even more to avoid remorse.

2) 10 Speed auto - This is the best thing about the 2018 Mustang. No two ways about it. Its their best transmission, and its worth the $2k mark up as an option. I stay in downtown, and its pretty stop-start around here, and the transmission is also smooth on the freeway where you can make better use of those 310 horses!

Another small consideration was the "Orange Fury" shade that is available in 2018. It makes the Mustang stand out.

Here is a pic :) -

Read there was a slight upsize on the bore of 5.0 with the new 10 speed auto. This is the perfect car and muscle car, that isn't an all out quick shifting german, but manages to keep up with their lap times on circuits, and gives out the glorious muscle car tune that only AMG's just about match, but not up to mark. It's rumble has been improved over the 2017 variants too.

GM & Ford worked together to make this box. Something never heard of since a long time. FCA and their over weight Dodge Challenger is the odd one on the block. Will it go the way of the viper:deadhorse:eek:
