New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Suzuki Jimny is preparing the fourth generation. Launch in 2018.

New Suzuki Jimny in 2018-novojimny700x416.jpg

In Japan, it will continue with the version "kei" equipped with 0.66 three-cylinder Turbo engine and 1.3 for the external market. Speculated to be of the ladder- frame configuration with 4x4 offering.

Suzuki could also consider the 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine as recently revealed in the Swift, and a brand new 1.0-litre turbocharged ‘Boosterjet’ petrol. Suzuki hasn’t ruled out offering mild and full hybrid powertrains, either.

The style will take inspiration from the XA concept.

This rendering has appeared years back.

I guess the styling will be based on the X-Lander, shown in 2013 Tokyo motor show, which was based on the ladder-frame chassis of Jimny. It looks nice and stylish too. 5 years is a reasonable time period for developing such a car from concept to production, IMO.

re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

After two decades, 20 years... They are going to launch the next gen.

Nice to know that the Jimny will survive as it is. A compact pocket size proper 4x4. Used to think that any of the softroader AWDs, like the Vitara Brezza and the Ignis would be replacing the Jimny.

Just hope that they launch it in India ASAP and replace the Gypsy with this.

Will this come to India?
I never understood why they didn't bring it in earlier.
I remember the Jimny being showcased in the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in 2004.
Thats 12 years back!
But of course, Maruti is never about niche. Only about mass.

Suzuki Plans Next-Gen Jimny.
Likely To Be Made in India.
It'll share the same platform as the Baleno and Ignis.
Will be exported to International markets from India.
It might also drop the name Jimny in India and adopt 'Samurai' or possibly revive the 'Gypsy' nametag to capitalize on the latter's cult following in the country.

Rumour: Next-gen Suzuki Jimny to be made in India

Media reports suggest that Suzuki is planning to make India the manufacturing hub for the next-gen Jimny. The new Jimny is likely to be launched before 2020, in markets such as Brazil, Indonesia, and Europe. Since the Jimny is rumoured to be produced in India, it is possible that Maruti Suzuki will launch it in the domestic market as well.

The fourth-gen Jimny will reportedly be made on Suzuki's new, lightweight platform that also underpins the Baleno hatchback. It will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant, which is scheduled to start operations in early 2017. Reports further suggest that the new Jimny might be powered by the 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine that develops around 110 BHP. A diesel engine will also be on offer.

The Jimny is currently in its third generation. It was originally launched in 1970 as the "Light Jeep" model named LJ10. The second-gen model was sold from 1981 to 1998. The Maruti Gypsy is essentially a long-wheelbase version of the second-gen Jimny. The third-gen (current) model has been around since 1998. As a result, the Japanese automaker will soon be introducing a comprehensively revised model of the popular compact off-roader.

In India, the Suzuki Jimny will be sold as a long-wheelbase, four-door model. Moreover, Maruti might shed the Jimny moniker for the domestic market, and try to capitalize on the Gypsy brand name.

I would buy the Jimny as it is today. While next generation is a good idea, what stops them from launching the current generation? If Mahindra can sell a 2 door Thar as a mass market car, so can MSIL. It'll be a good alternative to the gypsy.

+1 to your views. The car looks superb in its iteration. This car is bang on where Toyota should have got the Rav4 in. The pricing, if sweet will lead to another blockbuster for MSIL.

Jimny in India is like a mirage. The news of launch in India has been in various iterations in different point of time without any happening in real life. I doubt whether this time also anything will happen, at least in near future.

My doubt: if it will be built on the Baleno's light-weight platform, it will be an urban-friendly SUV and will help Suzuki to capitalize on the current trend, but will it have the same off-road prowess of the current ladder-frame chassis which made its name?

Jimny if priced below Thar, could find as many takers as Thar, or even more.
And it need not have a Diesel engine since jimny is pretty light.

1.0 litre turbo for Jimny sounds overkill ,at least for Indian market.
