Wow - interesting. I'd be tracking this with some interesting. Could make for a good second car in the house. Still reeling from all the water wading in Bbay for the mandatory school pick up last week. Having a Jimny like vehicle has almost become mandatory in modern cities. LoL

Yes you're right but I'm just using it as a general benchmark anyway given how extreme the rating is. I'll be surprised if a 1 star rating could actually transform to an 8 star rating.

Anyway would independently see what they actually launch here.

We need to review and treat these kind of cars keeping in mind the very purpose it is made. This Jimny is not a "jack of all" car. It is not made for daily office run. It is not a highway drag racer as well. It not even pretend or presume itself as a luxury car.

It has "offroad" and "classic style" written all over it. Treat it that way

At 3.67 meters in length, the 3-door Jimny is just the right size for MSIL to experiment with a 5-door version, if they want to.

They have about 300 mm to play with, and I'm sure a 5-door Jimny can be kept under 4m.

That said, a 3-door with all the bells and whistles should get Mahindra a little hot under the collar.

MSIL, please bring this to India ASAP, and not in 2020 when it may not be as relevant.

Agree completely. With the following options, it can do wonders to the sales of this car in India, IMO:

Diesel
2WD
4WD

Some insight to the 2018 Jimny,

1. Currently being tested in 4 countries - UK, Spain .....? in order to develop the car's chassis set-up and refinement for launch onto the global market.

2. New Jimny is being developed with the feedback of existing Jimny owners in mind, who rank its effective off-road capabilities and robustness more highly than on-road performance.

3. Will retain the characteristics of its predecessor and not the Vitara being more road biased.

4. Road handling will still be improved, but the car's unique selling point was its hardy nature, so this will remain the focus during development.

5. Suzuki Jimny is likely to retain the manual low-range gear selector to maximize its off-road adjustability, while in the Vitara it is an electric rotary dial.

6. Suzuki is catering the Jimny to the enthusiasts thus knowing the market is comparatively small. (~ 1200 .yr in UK)

Maruti's rugged vehicles, spare availability and good universal service country-wide are going to sell a lot of Jimnys. If Maruti really launches a new Jimny that is comparable to the current one then Maruti will blow up Thar and Maruti will have a winner on their hands.

But, what about this launch? Is it really going to happen or is it just another Indian pipe dream?

Surely there must be SOME Team-BHPer who has insider information on whether Maruti is going to build/launch the Jimny in India? There must be construction people working on the plant, IT people, Government people who can confirm the rumors?

Right now I am suspending judgement. Is this really going to happen or are some people smoking those funny cigarettes?

Suzuki Jimny is all set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

The 2018 SUV will be built the Suzuki plant located at Kosai, Shizuoka as the current plant ( Iwata) where it is manufactured is being upgraded.

Suzuki Jimny will be production ready in MAY 2018.

NEW info( derivative of Japanese Jimny ): there is also some information saying that Jimny Sierra, which is equipped with a 1.0-liter in-line three-cylinder turbo engine (K10C type), will also appear within 2017.

Legacy of Jimny:
