Suzuki Jimny likely to come back to Europe as a 48V mild electrified SUV. Proposal under study.

Could use the Suzuki Swift Sport system sold in Europe using the 48V hybrid as standard thereby satisfying the emission need.

- using the 1.4L Boosterjet engine(K14D) and 6 MT combined with the 48V hybrid, thus complying with the emission standard of "Euro 6D".

- The maximum output is 129 Ps/5500 rpm and a torque of 235 Nm/2000rpm

- in addition the IGS Motor produces 13 Ps

- Results in greater acceleration at start, CO2 emissions under WLTP combined are 127 g /km, fuel consumption of 5.7 L/100 km(~17.5km/l)

- in Future plans Suzuki will the THS-II, 1.5L inline 3cyl. engine from Toyota Yaris Hybrid

Hi,

Like some of the comments above, the image sure looks ugly. The wheelbase is toooo long for the vehicle. That contributes to the disproportionate look.

Either the picture is just a photoshop work of a SWB test mule, or, Suzuki got lazy and did a limo job on a 2-door for some sensless reason. A similar vehicle, the Wrangler Unlimited has slightly better proportions. And the Bolero has an even better side profile.

A Horrible turning radius and difficult break over angle would be two big disadvantages that this WB creates. Slightly improved passenger comfort and a little bit better highway manners would be plus points though.

If and when they decide to manufacture the LWB version, I really hope they find the sweet spot between this wheelbase and that of the SWB model, for the production version. Anyway, the concept makes one really appreciate the SWB version.

There is a 5 Door Jimny and a 3 door Jimny as i mentioned in some previous threads. But there are some delays happening now on development ,more focus is on 5 door as of now. SMC and MSIL are too tight lipped regarding the SOP and launch.
Looks like both 3D and 5D Jimny have same wheel base, so we can assume that 5D Jimny is based on Long wheel base 3D Jimny. And I saw a rendering above of a 5D Jimny, spot on ;)

Proportions are weird, needs a bit less wheelbase and more rear overhang for balance, although that would compromise some off-road ability. If it has a small rear-opening doors like FJ Cruiser then it will sell like a hot cake.

Went to a 4x4 show here in Brisbane over the weekend where some modded Jimnys were on display.

Hope they would add a kink to the rear end of the roof or atleast add some decent roof rails to give some aesthetic relief to that flat roof.

A Gypsy went past me yesterday, and could not miss the bounciness. Will Jimny have the same behaviour ? Anybody who has driven one ?

Should be similarly bouncy - just like the Gypsy, it has rigid front axle, although leaf springs are replaced with coil ones!

Daihatsu 'Lager' to rival ( Japanese market) the 5 door Suzuki Jimny, likely to launch in early 2022.

Daihatsu maybe seeing it as a Jimny rival. But most likely this would just be the boxier version of the Daihatsu Rocky. With an AWD system as standard.

Next Generation Suzuki Jimny coming in 2024. Will get a full-hybrid powertrain.

In 2024, a comprehensively revised Jimny will follow, which can then also be offered again with normal car registration – an economical full hybrid (electric motor plus 1.5-liter gasoline engine) developed by Suzuki itself makes it possible.

Thanks for sharing.

Although I doubt this news article. Jimnys have long life per generation. The 3rd gen was on sale for full 20 years before 4th gen was launched in 2018 IIRC. I doubt Suzuki will bring in an all new Generation specially when it's doing so well internationally and is yet to be launched in India.

Hybrids and EV's will be mandated if they have to sell in EU. As is Jimny is not being sold there as a PV due to the emission laws and fines it has to pay if sold as is.

Here is the speculated plan for Suzuki going forward. Here is where Toyota could help if the need arise,

The Suzuki Jimny in 2024 will be its first major face-lift and not a generation change.
