New Suzuki Jimny in 2018
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/international-automotive-scene/177839-new-suzuki-jimny-2018-a-34.html)
Test drove the new Jimny today. No additions from what every reviewer has already told.
- Its a small car, pictures give a much larger feel than its actual size.
- Its just enough powered, once 100kmph is crossed, engine feels strained (with just one occupant)
- Engine noise is rather loud from 3000 rpm onwards
- Driver sits really high with a commanding view.
- Space inside is just enough for 2 people and thier luggage. If 2 kids are sitting in the second row, there is absolutely no luggage space. But for kids second row is comfortable.
- As expected, the body roll is on the higher side.
- Didnt get a chance to take it to offroad.
- Currently 4+ months of waiting period in Australian market.
- Its a real cool car, turns so many heads !!
Test drive car
Once the second row is up, there is enough space to keep your wallet in the boot
My 10km+ heavy footed test drive gave 12.9kmpl (indicated)
Myself sitting in the second row, driver seat is adjusted for my height and passenger seat is pushed all the way up. But the good news is that small kids will get some under thigh support in second row
AUD 31,200 on road cost for the automatic model.
I had also checked out the Jimny here in person, but didn't drive it. I agree with the observations by Arijit above.
Suzuki Jimny launched in Thailand as CBU from Japan!

The prices in Thailand are high because the import duties are 80% on CBU.
In another article about luxury car imports in Thailand, the car importers had this to say.
Quote:
Luxury car importers have complained that an import duty of 80% of CIF is too high, as the combined rate reaches 328% when other taxes -- vehicle excise tax, value-added tax (VAT) and local tax -- are taken into account. https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/gen...ry-car-tax-cut.

There’s only one variant here, which uses a K15B 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that provides 100 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The mill is linked to a four-speed automatic with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro four-wheel drive system featuring selectable high and low range.

In a YouTube video posted by Suzuki Australia, you can see two Jimnys duking it out on a mountain trail, braving the difficult terrain. But what makes the clip interesting is that these 4x4s braving the rocky path are actually roller skates.

Now I can understand why Suzuki is reluctant to launch this in India. It is essentially a 2 Seater. It will probably be too niche a segment that they will cater.

Agree. But if it is manufactured in India they should still launch it. It's not that they have to import it. I will definitely buy one.
