Suzuki Jimny launch on 5th July to the Japanese market. Jimny Sierra will be simultaneously on sale too.

this is not full time four wheel drive (AWD), but part time four wheel drive (AWD) has been confirmed.

I love it ! Great option for city use, i hate driving hatchbacks and our xuv is too big for my daily use so this will be a perfect fit. Prefer the no nonsense boxy look. I just hope they price it right.

It would be really interesting to see the Toyota version of the Jimny Sierra. I hope Toyota does a modern version of the 40 Series Land Cruiser with their version of the Jimny. Wishful thinking !

Do you guys honestly believe maruti will launch this in India. They didn't launch the previous Jimny, they could have modernized the Gypsy with coil spring, Ac (which suzuki already did at some point in markets elsewhere) but all of them went to deaf ears.

Q -Our recent story about the next-gen Jimny – the next-gen Gypsy so to speak – got a lot of feedback and queries. Can we see a back-to-basics 4x4 in India anytime soon?

CVR: The issue for us is that globally the Jimny is a three-door vehicle – something that doesn’t work in India. At the end of the day, the Indian customer wants a 5-door vehicle for practical reasons. We’ve not been able to arrive to a definite conclusion. The feedback from the market has not been positive. What people want is a 5-door vehicle, which we don’t have. Also, the Jimny is a narrow vehicle, so width is also an issue. The current Gypsy is a wide-track vehicle. But, I think, from a lifestyle perspective, there is some potential.

With the upcoming emission norms, EV program, Toyota JV, etc. it would seem that Jimny / Gypsy(Sierra) would not come to India anytime soon( before 2020).

But going by the SUV trend and this is a niche product and is in Maruti Suzuki's radar this car will most probably launch here either by Maruti Suzuki or it would seek help of Toyota, as it is widely speculated that Toyota is likely to re-badge the Jimny for sale in US.

Interior space

In addition to work tools and camping supplies, if you want to store long items, you can provide a flat floor if you remove the passenger seat (this is quite convenient).

From the new "Jimny", the opening width is wider than the current model (① from 965 mm → 1,015 mm, ② from 920 mm → 995 mm), the ease of use such as loading and unloading is improved.

You can fit in the 1.2 K-series and the 1.3 MJD. I'm sure a lot of people will be waiting in line with their chequebooks.
