Isn't this a lot like the VW Tiguan? I'm guessing its a badge engineered product in Skoda Clothing. Like it irrespective.

Yes it is probably meant to be the "Kodiaq-ised" version of the Tiguan as they share the same VW MQB platform. Skoda however adds a bit more flair to their designs, both inside and out so it is better looking than Tiguan and will also have better interiors than the Tiguan!
Don't know if the Karoq will make it to India though with the positioning strategy of Tiguan, Kodiaq and Audi Q2 yet. If both this and Tiguan are sold in India, this will cannibalize the sales of Tiguan and even that of Q2 and Q3, as it is a more modern and spacious design with most of the electronic gadgetry available in them. This may even have the full 12 inch driver LCD display (like the latest A4)

Re: Next-gen Skoda Yeti coming in 2018. EDIT: Named Karoq

All about Karoq,

-Based on the recently launched Kodiaq. There will be a choice of five engines at launch, with four of those new to Skoda.

- The Yeti sold 100,000 cars per year, which was no less than 10% of global sales. Expecting Karoq to do more than that.

- Karoq is available with a range of advanced driver assistance and infotainment options, and is the first Skoda to come with a digital instrument panel.

- Yeti name drooped as China is the target for SUV's. the yeti association is seen as a negative, given the yeti folklore originates in Bhutan, a country China has no diplomatic relations with.

List of engines:

- 1.0 TSI - 115 PS, 175 Nm of torque, top speed of 187 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 10.6 seconds, combined consumption of 5.2 l per 100 km,
CO2 emissions of 117 g/km

-1.5 TSI - 150 PS, 250 Nm of torque, top speed of 204 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, combined consumption of 5.1 l per 100 km,
CO2 emissions of 119 g/km

-1.6 TDI - 115 PS, 250 Nm of torque, top speed of 188 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 10.7 seconds, combined consumption of 4.5 l per 100 km,
CO2 emissions of 118 g/km

- 2.0 TDI - 150 PS, 340 Nm of torque, top speed of 207 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, combined consumption of 4.4 l per 100 km,
CO2 emissions of 115 g/km

2.0 TDI - 190 PS, 400 Nm of torque, top speed of 211 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, combined consumption of 5.3 l per 100 km,
CO2 emissions of 138 g/km

Advanced Tech:

- The Karoq will be the first Skoda to feature a customisable digital instrument panel. It will also come with three individual keys, which will remember a driver’s preferred drive mode, lighting, infotainment and other settings setting when they unlock the car.

- There are four levels of infotainment system. The top level, Columbus, features a 9.2in screen and gesture control for certain functions. Other features include a wireless smartphone charging pad and adjustable interior ambient lighting, along with a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, Virtual Pedal hands-free boot system and an electronically retractable tow bar.

Space :

-The Karoq has space for five passengers, with a 521-litre boot capacity, which expands to 1630 litres with the rear seats folded. A VarioFlex system allows the three rear seats to be individually adjusted or removed, expanding capacity to 1810 litres.

Price : Expected to be more than YETI, starting at € 20000.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Yeti coming in 2018. EDIT: Named Karoq

I think the Karoq looks good. I am eagerly waiting for the pricing details. My current car lease runs out in less than a year. The Karoq is something I could consider if it fits the budget. I hope Skoda provides a good mix of variants. Both the "brothers" of the Karoq - Seat Ateca and VW Tiguan - do not offer a good choice of variants here.

This makes me hopeful that a FWD version of the 2.0 TDI will be offered in the Karoq. This combination is not offered on the Ateca or Tiguan here. This combination will serve my purpose (hoping again that it will be offered with DSG and will be decently spec-ed. Too many hopes on the Karoq, eh?). If it doesn't work out, there's the 1.6TDI The 2.0 TDI 190PS version will be reserved for the 4x4 version, judging by the CO2 value.

What one does not realise is that the Skoda Karoq is merely a Seat Ateca with a Kodiaq nose and different interiors. The Ateca is built on the same production line

Yes as Seat is also a VW group company so they would likely share a lot of parts and design. In this group the Audi Q3, the VW Tiguan and the Karoq would also have a similar parts bin, which is a good thing in a way that it brings in higher volumes and better productivity and hence lower part costs. Still the way that the Skoda new cars, especially the Kodiaq and the Karoq have their own unique face and character is commendable and much more expressive than the Tiguan.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Yeti coming in 2018. EDIT: Named Karoq

With VW Tiguan prices now released, any guesstimates on Karoq's pricing (Keeping Audi Q2 in mind, just in case they decide to launch it here)?

Karoq could start at ‎₹ 24 lakhs (ex-showroom) . Karoq in Europe will be priced slightly higher than the existing Yeti.

Also keeping in mind the upcoming T Roc from VW will be the sibling of Karoq price-wise.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Yeti coming in 2018. EDIT: Named Karoq

I think it would be reasonable to expect the Karoq to start at 20 Lacs ex showroom. Given that the Superb starts at 24 with such great kit as standard.

For 20 lac starting I think Tucson would be hit badly(of whatever small volumes it has left). That blue color looks wonderful and even in the interiors you can realise the width inside has moved almost a segment above from the Yeti.

The Q2 is most likely not coming to India(the new Audi India head revealed in an interview to Overdrive that it is still under consideration and not finalised)

It for sure will not be cheaper than the current Yeti

Audi Q2 will come to India in 2018. VW's T-ROC not yet decided for India.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Yeti coming in 2018. EDIT: Named Karoq

The current Gen Nissan Qashqai is a 5 seater SUV while the X Trail is a 7 seater. While they look very identical, the X Trail is the longer version of Qashqai therefore making room for the 3rd row of seats.

I see the same going on about the Kodiaq/Karoq and it is certainly good for the profitability of VAG.

In my view, I wished Skoda had taken to this market differently for these 2 important launches. The Karoq could've been boldy-styled aimed for the youth market like Toyota is doing with the C-HR and the Kodiaq for mid-age family segment. This would leave them room for a flagship SUV too ala Q7.

This way, Skoda could've retained customer's for life. youth to mid-age to older covering the full spectrum.

But of course Skoda/VAG known what they're doing. This is just my opinion.
