Next Gen Skoda Yeti rendered - to be less boxy that the current one and will be inspired by the Kodiaq, but it will gain in terms of interior space and luggage compartment capacity. The size may increase and reach the 4.35 meters.

The available engines are the petrol three-cylinder 1.0 TSI and diesel 2.0 TDI , to which should be added the recent 1.5 running on petrol and diesel, launched on the Volkswagen Golf and soon expected on the models that the group will launch from 2017 onwards. The Yeti should then resume from Kodiaq some technologies of semi-autonomous driving .

Whats hideous about the current (pre facelifted) Yeti?
I think beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Its quirky, yes, but certainly not hideous! To me it has functional classic looks. Quite understated and pretty elegant and functional which is why I bought it.

And this was the USP of the first gen Yeti! It gave so much character to it that it stood out from the crowd. I do not like the current gen on sale in India and the one coming next is plain boring!!! I don't understand VW's mantra of making all its cars look the same! The Kodiaq reflects the Q7 and this one tries to ape the Q3/Q5 which according to me are the most boring looking cars from a reputed manufacturer! How I wish Skoda retained the quirkiness with this one!

Bringing you the first pics of the 2018 Skoda Yeti - seen undisguised - Looks like a 'baby Kodiaq'. Will be unveiled shortly at the Geneva Auto show.

Speculated to have a length of 4.4m and sitting on the same MQB platform, the new Skoda Yeti will have five seats and will inherit the power-train of Kodiaq, taking 1.5 engine with 130 or 150 HP TSI, as well as a 2.0 TSI with 180 HP and diesel versions 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI.

In addition to this, the brand will also have a entry level compact SUV derived from the New Fabia.

I have to say that the complete departure from the current styling of the Yeti is disappointing. At the very least, I was hoping Skoda would take the current styling and refine it (like the new Suzuki Swift). If it were a completely new model, this design would be fine. Its just that they are calling it a Yeti!

Skoda has registered the name "Karoq" with the German patent office. While it could just be the title of another car, local media says it's actually for the Yeti's

Skoda's next launch- a 'baby' Kodiaq called Koraq ( 2018 Yeti). Slated to be unveiled on 18 th May. Follows the Kodiaq's theme.

While at first you might be tempted to say the prototype is virtually undisguised, that’s not actually the case. Looking closely, it still has plenty of camouflage to hide the production bits and pieces. For example, the taillights are hiding behind a fake white sticker featuring the Kodiaq’s taillight design. Most of the rear bumper design is masked by a black piece of tape, a type of camo used to cover the lower areas of the doors and the side skirts.

By now, prototypes have covered around 1.2 million miles collectively. And sure enough, aside from a few niggles regarding fit and finish, the Karoq feels ready for the showroom

The YETI brand becomes extinct, the modern KAROQ ticks all the right boxes for mass appeal.
The Kodiaq has had a clear influence on the Karoq - and not just on its name; scaled-down versions of the wide front grille and headlamps are just about visible at the front, while sharp edges to the bodywork can be picked out on the flanks.

One thing that has been carried over from the Yeti is the innovative Varioflex seating – the rear bench can slide, tumble and even be completely removed for maximum flexibility.

Based on the MQB Platform as SEAT ATECA it naturally shares an identical footprint.

measuring 4,382mm long, 1,841mm wide and 1,605mm tall. Those are significant gains over the Yeti and as a result, boot capacity has increased by 105 litres to 521 litres. Dropping the rear bench boosts load capacity to 1,630 litres, too, making the Karoq potentially the most practical crossover in its class.

Four engines will be available from launch: 1.0 and 1.5-litre petrols, and 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesels, with power outputs ranging from 115bhp to 187bhp.

1.5 L turbo Petrol,

On the move, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo is extremely quiet, and even a boot of throttle to up the pace does little to upset refinement. There’s also a noticeably softer edge to the Karoq’s ride compared with the Ateca’s; it feels supple and forgiving, but as a result there is more body roll. Adaptive dampers will be made available as an option.

As is the case with most models on the MQB chassis, there’s little in the way of steering feel, but aligned with the Koraq’s more relaxed nature it’s not a huge concern. The seven-speed DSG gearbox slurs gears smoothly, while the engine is also able to shut down two of it cylinders under light throttle loads to save fuel. For every 62 miles Skoda claims this function helps save around half a litre of petrol.

2.0L Diesel

The 2.0-litre diesel feels immediately more potent, thanks to its superior torque advantage of 340Nm. Yet despite this, Skoda claims it’s actually slower from 0-62mph, taking 8.9 seconds – half a second more than the 1.5 petrol. As with the petrol, the diesel motor is well isolated from the cabin and the ride quality on the four-wheel drive version even better. That’s because it gets a multi-link set-up at the rear, whereas front-wheel-drive models make do with a less sophisticated torsion beam

CarMagazine UK gives a big thumbs up to the all-new Skoda Karoq in their pre-production review!

Dimensionally the Karoq is longer than the Yeti with a lower roofline and extended wheelbase - meaning more interior space and a bigger boot. Headline tech includes LED front and rear lights, 13 new safety systems, and Skoda’s first digital dashboard. The latter gives you four displays with varying space given to the dials and info screen, which can show you sat-nav instructions and media info, among other things. There is jazzy new ambient lighting, and infotainment displays up to 9.2-inches in size, featuring VW’s new tile-based operating system and gesture control too.

In many ways the Karoq is even more practical than the car it replaces. For a start the boot is bigger by 105 litres, giving you 521 litres of space or 1630 litres with the seats folded. The loading lip is also lower, so your dog won’t have to jump up so high to get in. Pick the VarioFlex rear seating system and the three individual seats move by up to 150mm forwards and backwards, so the bootspace varies between 479 and 588 litres. With this option all three seats come out completely too, giving you 1810 litres of room.

We drove the 1.5-litre TSI 150 and the 2.0-litre TDI 150, both with automatic gearboxes. The latter is the projected big seller. In all honesty they both felt broadly similar in terms of power delivery, with a strong mid-range and good pull without having to shift down. Both engines are quiet on the move - the petrol is hushed unless really thrashed and the diesel does a very good job of disguising its fuel choice. It has two balancing shafts in crank case for better refinement which helps in this aspect. You get five driving modes to select called Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow, plus an off-road setting for all-wheel drive models.

The new Yeti shown has become entirely Audi Q3 esqe. While most people who see it will like it, previous Yeti owners (like me) will find it a big departure from the classic design. Probably the reason why they renamed it too to Karoq.
Looks like a clean modern design and seems like they have been able to carve out more space in the same footprint.
Lets see when this comes to India.
My guess is that Kodiaq should be launched by June and the Karoq may only come in next year around April.
