Stefano Domenicali, former boss of Ferrari's Formula 1 team will be assuming the role of Lamborghini's president and CEO, w.e.f. March 15, 2016. Domenicali is currently vice president of Audi’s New Business Initiatives; a role he has held since November 2014.

Domenicali will be filling in the shoes of Stephan Winkelmann, the former president and CEO of Lamborghini who has officially been named the new CEO of Audi's Quattro GmbH division. Quattro GmbH includes the Audi Sport brand with customer motorsport, the development and distribution of the R and RS models, the accessories of the Audi Sport collection and the car-customizing services of Audi exclusive. Winkelmann succeeds Heinz Hollerweger who retires after nearly 40 years with Audi.

Winkelmann has been at the helm of Lamborghini since 2005 and over the past 11 years, has led the raging bull through the most active period in its history. His tenure has seen different versions of the Gallardo, limited editions like the Reventon and Veneno, the introduction of the Aventador and Huracan that replaced the Murcielago and Gallardo (respectively), the Sesto Elemento prototype, and concepts like the Egoista and Asterion Hybrid. Lamborghini sold a record 3,245 units in 2015 and the number of Lamborghini dealerships has tripled in the last decade.

Domenicali will join Lamborghini at a crucial point, as it prepares to introduce the 2nd SUV in its history after the LM002 i.e. the Urus. Lamborghini will produce a third model series for the first time ever and the new SUV is expected to make use of a 4.0L, twin-turbo V8. The Urus will enter production in 2018.

Stephan Winkelmann has been the face of Lamborghini for a long time now. He is known to be the man who took Lamborghini to new heights.

Stefano Domenicali has been known as a not so successful leader of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team. Hope he manages to continue the good work that Winkelmann has started.

After 11 years as boss of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann is to be replaced by ex-Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali. He's off to Germany to head up Audi's Quattro division.
Under his tenure (the longest for any CEO in the Volkswagen group following the departure of Winterkorn post diesel-gate crisis), Lamborghini has experienced a period of unprecedented growth and expanded into lucrative markets including China, doubling production and tripling turnover. Oh, and expanding the model line with the incoming Urus SUV set for 2017.
