Volkswagen T Cross Review,

T-Cross comes to the UK with two different engine options, both 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrols – one with 94bhp, the other with 113bhp.
In its most affordable form, the T-Cross costs just £16,995, rising to £25,050 for the 113bhp R-Line DSG.

Quote:
Dimensionally, the front-wheel-drive T-Cross is slightly longer than a Polo (at 4,107mm). It’s also 110mm higher, while the driving position has been raised by 100mm. As a result, it’s considerably bigger than a Polo inside, despite their identical wheelbases
Quote:
In the rear, the T-Cross features a bench seat that slides backwards and forwards, increasing rear legroom by an impressive 150mm.
Quote:
Luggage space can vary between 385 and 455 litres – or a theoretical 1,281 litres with all the seats folded
Quote:
sliding the rear seat forwards leaves a curiously large hole right across the back of the boot, into which even fairly large items can fall. VW’s designers don’t seem too bothered about this, pointing out how much extra boot space the sliding seat unleashes, but it seems like a strange quirk in an otherwise practical and well-designed baby SUV.
Performance:

Quote:
It won’t excite the average enthusiast, but it drives well enough
Quote:
Performance from the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol – fundamentally the same motor that powers the Up! GTI – is decent rather than sparkling in either guise, with a lack of torque below 2,500rpm blunting its appeal on the move.

The 0-62mph dash takes 10.2 seconds in the 113bhp model or 11.5 seconds in the 94bhp version.
Quote:
Refinement is impressive in both models; the 94bhp car gets a slick five-speed, while the six-speed manual gearbox works well in the 113bhp model, too.
Quote:
On the move, the T-Cross rides extremely well and steers with a light, accurate precision. It doesn’t roll as much as you’d think for a car so tall, and again its chassis has a grown-up refinement that belies its underpinnings. Dynamically it gives very little away to the Polo on which it’s based

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

T Cross the 2nd product for India from VAG, likely to debut in 2021 after Skoda's KAMIQ.

Now reviewed in Europe (Spain) by Indian journalists.

Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled-7.png

Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled-00.png

- Currently 4.1 metres long but will ‘grow’ in length for India.

-Lots of screens on the inside of the European #TCross ; instrument panel is sharp clear and ‘views’ can be cycled via button on steering: a must for Indian market. Quality levels inside cabin very good. Not many low quality or cheap bits either.

-Attention to detail first rate on T Cross , the challenge will be maintaining the quality once the car is localized.

-Legroom in the rear of the European T Cross is sufficient, but for India we’ll get a longer wheelbase and more space in the back.

- T Cross steering is both light and easy to twirl and weighs up nicely at speed/

- T Cross boot is 385 Lts, but can be expanded to 455 L if you slide the rear seats forward

- The 1.0 TSI petrol VW T-Cross, in its higher state of tune - 113 bhp with a 6-Speed manual box. There’s also a 93 bhp (5-Speed) option on the same motor. Auto option is the 7-Speed DSG.

- Both cars ( Skoda Kamiq and T Cross ) will be modified for India, and we won't we surprised if one or both are also trimmed to be sub 4-metre.

-Wheel sizes are between 16 and 18 inches. In India expect the 16 inch as standard

-The taillights are connected with a reflector strip that is not fitted on any other Volkswagen

- The Indian-made model will be differently specced and hence we expect it to start around ₹ 9 lakh and top off at about ₹ 12 lakh.
Quote:
The 113 bhp engine to be noticeably more agile when mated to the crisp manual transmission than with the near-perfect but somewhat lifeless dual-clutch automatic transmission. With the manual, it is fun to chase the T-Cross over twisty roads, but when you force it, consumption can approach around 14 kmpl.
Quote:
The balanced, pleasantly firm suspension is not exactly overstrained by the powertrain's performance. The steering provides precise feedback, the T-Cross is predictable and it remains neutral up to the limit. The stability control system intervenes rarely. This small crossover is also comfortable on long hauls - and it is unusually quiet
Quote:
The excellent lighting also provides safety; you do have to pay more for the all-LED headlights, but the LED taillights are standard. Let's hope that all of these great features are offered in India as well - at least the adaptive cruise control and parking assistant.
Quote:
VW does offer many forms of customisation and individualisation, at least on its European spec T-Cross
Quote:
Despite the elevated seating position, there is plenty of headroom. In fact, there is so much of it that VW could well have offered a sunroof or panoramic roof

Quote:
There is the sophisticated infotainment and telematics system. Volkswagen has tackled this increasingly important area in the form of several USB ports and a wireless charging option for suitably equipped mobile phones

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

Everything looks good on paper but the power figures are too low for what is ultimately a Creta rival. 113 BHP is just atrocious. I really hope it comes in a higher state of tune in India.

However, otherwise it seems like a well rounded package. Might just be a possible replacement for our Vento when it's time to replace it

Cheers!

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

I saw a heavily disguised T Cross undergoing road testing in Pune, to be precise it was Pimple Saudagar in PCMC area.

It was night time and I was riding a bike with my gloves on and couldn't take a picture.
One striking difference I observed was that the headlights were protruding out from the body, it looked like they are installed from some different car and the original ones were missing. In same way tail lamps were also attached from some different car, mostly Polo. Both looked like a stop gap feature before the headlights and tail lamps make the debut with the car.

Pune folks, watch out for this T cross.

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

A hidden VW Brazil site I found, which seems to have a lot of details on the upcoming T-Cross. Note the "hidden pages" tag in the URL. The Indian T-Cross is expected to be same outside dimensions as the Brazilian one. Although the page is in Portuguese, check out the videos on this page, the T-Cross looks stunning.

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

This may be just what the doctor ordered for VW's plans in India. I just hope that when they launch it they don't price it out of the segment like the Tiguan or emasculate it like the first gen Polo launched in India.

The T-Cross itself looks quite good. The design does not blow you away but has enough good bits to look a typical VW. The interior console looks fabulous and I hope that digital display is not deleted in the Indian spec model. A 130bhp petrol manual with around 200-250 Nm torque and it would be an exciting product to have.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

This looks to be the ideal upgrade option for me as I am looking for a mid-size/compact urban SUV with good quality and necessary creature comforts.
Also, among all the cars coming up in this space, the VW TCross looks to be the most promising - it's interiors are simply outstanding and takes the game to the next level. The Creta for examples looks totally outdated in comparison. I don't mind paying a premium for the quality and the features, I just hope VW/Skoda does not do too much cost-cutting for the Indian spec model to keep the price low. VW/Skoda has to compete in terms of quality and features and not in terms of price. Particularly, in this segment, people will shell out extra bucks if you are able to provide differentiated quality and a touch of premium-ness. ANy tentative timelines on the launch?

Re: Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled

European spec T-Cross reviewed by Overdrive.

* Instrument cluster is fully digital which I would love to see retained in the Indian version, wishful thinking!

* 18" wheels is again something that might be reduced to 16"/17" for Indian version

* Adjustable rear seats to configure rear legroom vis-a-vis boot space as per requirement

* 1.0L 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine makes 115 PS. Offers 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearboxes

* No diesel version to be launched initially in India
