The Honda Brio has been spied in what appears to be the RS variant. Snapped in Indonesia, the car in the picture receives a healthy dose of alterations at the front. The changes are similar to what the Mobilio RS gets over the standard Mobilio.

Expected to launch in Indonesia soon, the Brio RS gets a new set of projector headlamps with day-time running LEDs, different (possibly larger = 15'') alloy wheels, a new, wider black front grille that touches both headlamps and gets a chrome accent underneath, side skirts, and a new Mobilio RS like front bumper with integrated fog lamps and a honeycomb mesh patterned air dam. The car also features black interiors like the regular Indonesia-spec Brio.

The changes are most likely only cosmetic and the car is expected to continue with the 1.2L petrol engine. A screen-grab from a government database indicates that the car will be available with a CVT automatic gearbox. It remains to be seen if something similar will be offered in India, though an update of this kind won't be enough to cause a significant spurt in the Brio's tanking sales in India.

Oh man that's the epitome of ugly. That front bumper looks completely hideous. Feels like it was designed by a bunch of complete loons.

Cant they plonk the 1.5 liter engine into the Brio (they are already doing it in the Mobilio front sub-frame) with the updated braking and suspension and get into the hot hatch category and finish it right there? The already silky smooth rev-happy 1.5 liter iVTEC simply needs a light body shell.

The front overhang might be a little too much to mess up the proportions of an otherwise nicely designed car. Rest other changes are welcome. Does this RS variant also have the dashboard of City/Jazz ?

Dont think they will put the 1.5L engine in Brio, it makes sense to us enthusiasts but does not make any business sense as volumes will be pretty low.

Very awkward looking car. This is very capable car but needs a full redesign. Also, like ford Honda should make this available with a 1.5 P, 1.2 P and 1.5 D. Honda should read the writing on the wall. Sales numbers are not at all encouraging. Minor cosmetic changes alone are not going to help.

As far as I know the block is same, only the head needs change. Bore is same, stroke is different.

Many people have done the DIY mod in other Asian countries.

This is a bad looking car. And what with the big-lower lip looking front bumper. It looks ugly. The front half of the car has a long gradual end and the rear part has a short sudden end. Dont understand which designers did Honda hire to design this car.

True! Looks like Honda has taken the love theme a bit too seriously. To me, it looks like the car is ready for a kiss (because of the shape of front bumper).

Even the Mobilio looks equally ugly. There was a time Honda used to make beautiful timeless designs like City (3rd gen) and Civic. Now their design language looks weird.

This RS version would not bring the Brio sales up. All it needs is a diesel engine and a more powerful petrol mill (maybe turbocharged) to step into the performance hatchback category. Performance hatch scene is catching up in India, and Honda could do really well at least on paper because of low kerb weight of Brio (good Power-Weight ratio).

I think this is a result of caste/class system that we are so familiar with. Different market, different tastes.
