re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Project X6H will go on production in March 2017, these models are intended for press fleets, advertising and brand executives.

The release should occur between April and May.

Rendered images shows close resemblance to the European Tipo.

Quote:
At the rear, the changes in relation to the European Type are on the back cover. The lid of the trunk will be more horizontal and the nameplate was moved to the bumper. In fact, the piece also won new drawing and boomerang-shaped reflectors. Another change is the back door that does not invade the column C as the European model. The lanterns also have different format, at X6H they are finer in the part that extends to the lid of the trunk. At the bottom of the flashlight, there's a crease on cover game with the lights.

Design looks spot on. In this age of technology, at least the projector lights are a must. It has been given a miss from the images posted above.

Interesting to see when Fiat will get this to India (that is if at all they want to get it here).

IMO the design seems simple nothing special. The front is good but rear is plain old gen especially if we look side profile from B pillar there is nothing special. Considering this from Fiat they seems to have gone backwards in time unlike in the past when they have given timeless beauties like Palio, Punto which were also dynamically accomplished.
May be during the design phase they have given more importance to practicality, space management rather than beauty, dynamics. They may have taken the critics of Punto Linea seriously and addressed interior space issue. Hope they also bring in better slick manual and auto gearbox.
However Fiat should not discontinue Punto Linea so that there are options for both enthuastic as well as general people.
There is no harm in wishful thinking!

Looks like a poor man's Tipo. Similar design, but without all the design elements that make the Tipo a looker. Not to mention the front end that looks a bit like Celerio.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Few facts of the X6H,Link

1.Will replace the Punto and the more expensive versions of Palio. Will offer more interior space with a length of 4.0 m and 1.7 5m wide.

2. Will have design cues of Tipo. The X6H has national design, headed by Peter Fassbender, with emphasis on the front with the clipping of the hood grille and advancing on taillights Alfa Romeo style, horizontal and with a narrow part into the lid of the trunk.

3.The X6H will be the first compact Fiat having automatic transmission with torque converter. Will be the same for 6-speed Aisin box used by Toro, not by chance connected to the same engine e.Torq 1.8 of the pickup. 1.3 versions, with Firefly, there will be the automated transmission Dualogic in option to manual. In 3-cylinder 1.0, only manual transmission.

4.Versions will be Attractive, Attractive 1.3 1.0, 1.8 and 1.8 Sporting Essence.

5.The interior will be the finest of the Fiat compact so far, including several components from Toro, as the framework of instruments – although with unique graphics. There will also be a new multimedia center with the screen highlighted in the Panel

6.On the constructive, the X6H's coming up with the new rigour of the FCA applied to the Mobi and Toro, with extensive use of high-strength steel and smaller gaps of bodywork. The launch was delayed by about a month because of quality control. So, the presentation to the press should happen at the end of May, arriving in stores in June only.

7.Stability control with a starting Wizard function in ramp will be series item from the Attractive version 1.3. In 1.0, you should be offered as optional. Already the direction will be electric City function in all versions. Activated by a button on the dashboard, the system leaves the wheel 50% lighter for stunts.

8. Name of X6H yet to be revealed.

9.Should prices from 45000 R$, Attractive version 1.0, and should overcome the 70000 R$ in version 1.8 automatic complete Sporting

10.After the hatch X6H, will launch the X6S sedan (produced in Argentina) to replace the Linea and more expensive versions of the Grand Siena. Finally, in 2018 comes to truck X6P, to the place of Strada

Sigh...here I am, planning to dispose my Punto in Jan 2019 considering it as the last Fiat in my life, and reading this..

On a serious note, they need to hurry up a lot. The Fiat dealership ecosystem in India at present can be declared as endangered. This status will turn to extinct unless Fiat launch some appealing products like this, fast!
