There is a huge difference between KMs of roads and the number of lanes/Km of road. In India, if you see, except the GQ, EW corridor and some NHs, most of the roads are just single lane. Whereas, if you see for China, the total length of expressways far far exceeds that of India as well as the US of A. I take to it that most expressways in China are 3 or 4 lanes minimum.

The more accurate measure would be car density measured in Car/KM/lane.

The Automotive Industry in China has been the largest in the world since 2008. Since 2009, annual production of automobiles in China exceeds that of the European Union or that of the United States and Japan combined!
