After Unveiling its luxury brand Genesis, Hyundai now teases the G 90 -the new S Class rival!



The new limousine – to be dubbed G90 globally and EQ900 in its domestic market – will replace the ageing Equus sedan sold in select markets around the world.

The G90 will become the second model in the Genesis family, sitting above the BMW 5 Series-sized Hyundai Genesis sedan. Expect the latter to be rebranded G80 before too long as per the naming structure of the new Genesis range.

The Genesis G90 and Hyundai Genesis sedan (G80) will be joined by four more Genesis models by 2020, including a mid-sized sedan (G70), two SUVs and a sports coupe.

The first product from Genesis will come with the option of three petrol engines; other models will be the smaller G80 and G70 sedans, two-door coupés and a crossover.
Measuring over five metres long, the EQ900 sports a 3,160mm wheelbase, while in its long wheelbase guise, the full-size luxury sedan spans 3,450 mm between the axles. The sedan’s construction makes extensive use of advanced high-strength steel, which is twice as strong as regular steel.


Engine options on offer will include three petrol engine options – a 329bhp, 3.8-litre V6, a 365bhp, 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 and a top-of-the-line 419bhp, 5.0-litre V8 engine. The engines are rated at peak torque outputs of 40.3kgm, 52kgm and 53kgm respectively. The EQ900 also gets an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the HTRAC AWD system as standard. The EQ900 also comes packed with driver aids like DAA (Driver Attention Alert), and HVCS (Hyundai Variable Control Suspension).

Hyundai unveils new flagship sedan -G90 in Korea – where it will be known as the EQ900. Will rival the Germans - Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series Audi A8.

The G90 is the first new model in the range, joining the large sedan known initially as the Hyundai Genesis and now – although not yet in local showrooms – as the Genesis G80.

Hyundai has yet to offer a full view of the G90’s four-seat interior, although it has revealed the sedan’s spacious and technology-laden rear row, fitted with infotainment displays and a centre console filled out with entertainment and climate controls.

Italian leather and rear wood highlights feature throughout the cabin, while technology highlights include 22-way powered seats, a 12.3-inch display in the dash with a camera monitoring system and a premium Lexicon audio suite. Wireless device charging is also featured, along with tri-zone climate control.

The G90 measures 5205mm long and rides on a 3160mm wheelbase, making it longer in both cases than the regular 5116/3035mm S-Class.

Power in the G90 will be provided by a familiar set of Hyundai engines, including a 232kW/397Nm 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated V6 (as offered with Australia’s Genesis) and a 313kW/519Nm 5.0-lire V8.
The G90 will also be the first production car to feature Hyundai’s new 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6, producing 272kW and 509Nm.

The V8 model is the quickest to 100km/h, listing a 5.7-second sprint, but the turbo V6 is no slouch, claiming a 6.2-second time.

If the 3.3-litre engine mill makes its way to the G80.

OMG, this looks amazing. Knowing what Hyundai can achieve in terms of quality & refinement in mass market cars, I'm sure this will be excellent.
It needs to be sold at a competitive price, and try to undercut the Lexus models to gain traction.

What is the kind of transmission used? TQ or dual clutch? The article doesn't talk about that. I think CVTs maybe unlikely.

Genesis G90 spied in long-wheelbase form.

In its regular form, the G90 measures an already long 5205mm, making it longer than the 5116mm regular version of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Although not confirmed, this new variant could stretch the G90 close to, or even matching, the new 5453mm Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

Here's a detailed video on the EQ900/G90, it looks awesome minus the gloss-wood finish. I'd have preferred a matte natural finish wood for a car of this class. I think interior-wise it beats cars of leagues much higher- simple yet sophisticated, it has the Lexicon sound system found only in Rolls-Royce. Exteriors don't look as uniform/cohesive as they should but I think subsequent models will take care of those aspects. Also the option to have 3-seating in the rear is great, much more useful than having a partition permanently anyway.

Well elaborated version of a decade old joke. Only problem is that times have changed. And in my humble opinion it's rather naive now.

The famous Audi grill you speak of- Peter Schreyer works for Hyundai now. The side profile from BMW? Must be the influence of Thomas Burkle who works for Hyundai now. That's not enough for a luxury brand? Luc Donkerwolke from Bentley was hired specially for the Genesis brand. Still not comprehensive enough? They even hired Albert Biermann from BMW M Division to sort out the rode and handling issues.

It's time we stopped joking and start taking them very seriously. The rate at which Hyundai seems to be growing, soon other brands will need to copy them to play catch up.

Its going to be really tough for the car in the Indian market (if it is launched). People who can afford a Genesis can definitely afford a Merc S Class by paying a bit extra. Surely the pull of the three pointed star will make them pay more.

Space to watch for sure. I will not at all be surprised if Hyundai's Genesis brand is giving a run for their money to the German big 3, in India, in 5 years time. Brands take time to build and the Koreans know how to do it with a long term vision. If they can combine a well designed well equipped product with their top class service that could be something to look forward to. And India is important for Hyundai strategically which cannot be said for the German 3 - not yet at least. Honda entered the car market only in the mid-1960s and was not seen as a serious player in the Western markets till the early 1980s. Toyota in the 1970s was thought of as best suited for the Hong Kong cab fleet. Look where it is today. Of course the German 3 have a hold on the psyche of the Indian top end customer. But times will change. No one thought much of a Lexus amongst the Indian public till an infamous stock market operator posed with his Lexus on a business magazine cover in 1990 or 1991. I for one wish well for Hyundai.

Yes , they have indeed got good cars and great numbers in small segment but here we are talking about a segment where Brand name is equally important besides there is something called DNA which in my opinion holds good even for manufactured products - I maybe wrong though but there is a reason why people pay extra for a Toyota or BMW depending on priorities so Hyundai has some time to catch up with these guys . Will be interesting to see how they are able to prices these - can they do 30 % less than Germans ?

Genesis Leaked Roadmap.

Genesis G90 will be joined in by the mid sized G80 and G70 by 2017. By 2020 the line up will be complete with luxury SUV's and a Coupe.
