re: VAG's emission fraud - VW cheats in emission test

This a very amateur video, there is absolutely no emissions measurement.

Thinking about this, some guys made a video which shows that VW cheated on emissions - without any emissions measurement??
What the video shows is, it drops torque when it detects wheel slip- which is a standard feature for safety.

re: VAG's emission fraud - VW cheats in emission test

In reality the NOX emission may be good. Its good for global cooling in the times of global warming.

Just saying

If this means change in power and torque and the usual diesel characteristics, users will now start looking for ways to cheat the refitted software and any hardware change.

Thats reality.

re: VAG's emission fraud - VW cheats in emission test

According to the following article published by Credit Suisse the VW cheating scam could cost upto $87 billion to fix, which is 60% higher compared to what BP spend after the Gulf Oil spill.

http://money.cnn.com/2015/10/02/news...credit-suisse/

"Credit Suisse (CS) estimates that the total cost to the company could hit 78 billion euros ($87 billion) in a worst case scenario. That's about 60% more than the cost of the Deepwater Horizon spill to BP (BP).

"The market does not appear to be discounting negative knock-on effects," wrote Credit Suisse analysts in a report sent to the bank's clients. "The outcome for recall costs and fines is unclear and largely depends on the engine performance post repair."

Volkswagen (VLKAY) has set aside 6.5 billion euros ($7.3 billion) to deal with the fallout from the scandal, after the company was caught cheating on emissions tests in its diesel vehicles. Even Credit Suisse's most conservative estimate of the cost -- about 23 billion euros -- is roughly 3.5 times that figure.

The automaker has said about 11 million vehicles worldwide are affected. That's more vehicles than the group sells in a single year.

A total bill of $87 billion would be equal to seven times last year's net profit and place enormous pressure on Volkswagen's finances. According to the company's latest earnings statement, it has 21.5 billion euros ($24.3 billion) in cash on hand.

In compiling its estimates, Credit Suisse considered the cost of fixing the emissions problems, reimbursing owners and settling civil and criminal court cases.

The bank's analysts believe the single biggest cost -- up to 33 billion euros -- could come from compensating owners for the loss of value to their vehicles. The technical fix is likely to mean higher fuel consumption, which combined with damage to the brand, will make the cars harder to sell.

Credit Suisse said that Volkswagen may try to keep costs down by offering discounts on new vehicles to affected customers, instead of reimbursing them in cash.
Credit Suisse also warns that the carmaker's large financial services unit will take a significant hit from the scandal.

The financial arm of Volkswagen provides loans to customers who buy the company's vehicles, including Audi and Porsche models.

Since the scandal broke, Volkswagen Financial Services is having to pay more to borrow the money it then loans to customers. Credit Suisse said it may even need an injection of cash from the rest of the group to keep the business steady. "

Where, in the video, is the cheating revealed?

Call it collateral damage or unintended consequence, who would have expected Samsung TVs to get affected by VW dieselgate? According to this report, Samsung TVs are accused of 'cheating efficiency tests'. Samsung has been accused of fixing its TVs to use less energy under official testing conditions, drawing parallels with the recent Volkswagen scandal.

re: VAG's emission fraud - VW cheats in emission test

Volkswagen has enabled a VIN check on it's official website, to see if a particular customer's VW car is installed with the "cheat" software.

Quote:
Volkswagen said customers in Germany could enter their car's serial number on the www.volkswagen.de/info website to see if their car is affected.

Audi said customers could do the same on its www.audi.de site.

VW said the search tool is being integrated into national sites worldwide and will be available on those sites shortly. Audi said the function will be extended worldwide over national Audi sites in the coming week.

Customers can also go to dealers to check on their vehicles using the serial number. Volkswagen and its brands say they will present a technical fix to authorities in October.

I wonder: did they use Google translate to come up with that?

Actually, I doubt it: it would probably have done a better job

The "VIN check" web page is in German. I had to use Google translate to convert it to English.

Below is the screenshot of what I got (with Google Translate) for my Jetta's VIN number. The translation is a little different though

Here is the original in German.

Oh, I see! That explains it.

I was sure that VW would have a reasonable standard of English!

re: VAG's emission fraud - VW cheats in emission test

Now experts have calculated a likely death toll due to VW illegal emissions.
http://www.ibtimes.com/volkswagen-di...-shows-2125805

Quote:
likely killed from five to 20 people a year in the United States in recent years, according to a statistical analysis by the Associated Press. Software that the company admitted it programmed to get around government emissions limits allowed VW diesel cars to spew enough pollution to cause up to 94 U.S. deaths over the last seven years, the AP reported Saturday.
Quote:
"Statistically, we can't point out who died because of [VW’s] policy, but some people have died or likely died as a result of this," Peter Adams, an environmental engineer professor at Carnegie Mellon, told the AP. Adams’ computerized analysis estimated a $100 million cost for the U.S. deaths, at $8.6 million per death.

They got their lawyers to vet the German original and then relied on machine translation. They will not like to change a single comma.
