BMW developing a quad-turbo diesel engine?

BMW is reportedly working a new quad-turbo diesel engine. The German automaker already has a tri-turbo engine that has been used in models like the X5 M50d and 750d xDrive, but a recent report states that BMW's engineers are working on a new quad-turbo, straight-six cylinder diesel engine that will make its way to the 2016 BMW 750d.

The engine is said to be named the B57 TOP and will be a replacement for the current tri-turbo mill. The quad-turbo setup could help improve the engine's throttle response and improve driveability across a wider power-band.

Exact specifications remain unknown, but the output figures could be in the ball park of over 400 BHP and 800 Nm of torque, with the grunt driving all four wheels through BMW's xDrive system. The engine is expected to make its way to M Performance versions of models like the upcoming 5-series (G30), X5, X6 and the yet to be seen X7 as well.

Holy mother of god!

With 800NM this will be one beast of an engine!

Can't wait to see it trickle down to lesser models like the 3 series, an M3d doesn't seem like a distant dream after all.

^ Confirmed that next 50d models will generate 408 PS & 800 NM of Torques !!!

750d will be the first model to get this engine next year, will be a 8 spd a/t x-drive

The article says this will be offered with X-Drive models only.
Does it mean BMW is adopting all wheel drive for higher capacity engines?
