Chris Evans would be replacing Jeremy Clarkson as the new TOP GEAR host. This is confirmed by BBC now. Here is the link to the original article.

When Top Gear was relaunched in 2002, it was no longer a show about cars.
It became a series about 3 middle aged men falling over, and taking on rubbish challenges, and occasionally testing cars.
The heart of the show was witty gossip, nicknames, and in-general larking about.
The problem is what happens when you lose the folks who did all this as a team.
Chris Evans, albeit a radio DJ, is one of the most successful broadcasters in UK.
He is a massive petrol head, no doubt! But he ain't Jeremy Clarkson.
Around the World Top Gear has appeared in different forms.
The only format that works best has all 3 blokes in it.
Take that away, and you're left with something that isn't Top Gear.
Also, considering it's going to be an all-new line up, means Hamster & Mr. Slowly wont be making an appearance.
So, I guess Top Gear is officially over.
With Chris Evans, it might be a new car show. But it will never be the Top Gear that I loved.
I don't like him too much but well, for Top Gear fans like us, Chris Evans had big shoes to fill. No replacement would've been universally accepted. I know Jeremy couldn't have gone on forever. Still, it sucks not to have Jezza on Top Gear when he's still got a couple of hosting years left on him.
Chris does have a heck of a car collection:

And if you are curious about his presentation skills:

I'll still watch Top Gear. Not with the same frequency though, it just won't be the same without Clarkson.
Its not just Clarkson - Even Hammond and May are out !!
"An "all-new" line-up means Clarkson's co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May will not be involved." as mentioned in the article.
Why watch Top-Gear ever again ? !!
Jezza not being in TopGear is a bad thing. Absence of Hamster and Captain Slow will make it worse. Let's wait and see how the new boys will perform. Meanwhile let's hope Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow will come up with something new.
Quoting from the link in the first post
Quote:
His final appearance on Top Gear will be shown on 28 June. The episode will be made up of two films shot before Clarkson was suspended, with Hammond and May presenting links from the studio.
Viewers will see Clarkson, Hammond and May behind the wheel of classic cars and beaten-up 4x4s in their final challenges as a trio

Sigh! That will be the last true Top-Gear episode. Rest will be some other show, in the name of TopGear. Sad.

Yes indeed! planning is on progress and they are in talks to launch the new motoring show by calling them as "HOUSE OF CARS".

Cheers!
I thought there were two episodes remaining from S22. Or will both be aired as one single episode?
I thought May and Hammond had quit the show after Jezza's exit? I really doubt these two have stayed.
And I've to agree with what others have said, not just Clarkson, none of the three can ever be replaced. It's either all or nothing. Top gear had long stopped being just about cars, or even just about witty and sarcastic one liners. It's the chemistry between these three which simply cannot be replaced. I mean, look at Top Gear US, Australia etc., they're by no means bad, but they simply just don't work.
I'll conclude my rambling by saying this, if BBC still wants Top Gear UK to be the popular and very profitable show it always was, bring back all three. Otherwise, they might as well produce their own show (there have been several such rumours).
The Stig will return to his home planet. Nobody gets custody of The Stig.
Sincerely,
The Stig

For the cars :)
While we all can linger about how the new Top Gear would never be as good as the old one. As fans, perhaps its time to move on. Come to terms with the fact that Jeremy while a great host, perhaps deserved to go if he did in fact punch a colleague. If I were managing the show, perhaps I would have done my best to ensure that he doesn't get to that stage of aggravation, but if he did and if he chose to vent out by punching someone who is a part of the group, You've got to go. Its more of the right thing to do ethically v/s right thing to do from a business perspective.
I hope this new era of Top Gear is oriented towards cars and not some old person going on about how more power is a bad thing (Ferrari F12), or how Cayman is faster than a Huayra (ridiculous).
I think Chris Evans has that ability, he loves his cars and knows quite a bit about them. It'll be interesting to see the co-hosts they can rope in, I sincerely hope Chris Harris is one of them.
I just hope the new team doesn't do something stupid and start copying the old format and be ridiculous for ridiculousness' sake.
Chris Evans + Chris Harris + 'X' - should be a brilliant team.
Here's to the new era of Top Gear.

From BBC's point of view, there was no way they could continue with Clarkson on board, hence they let go of him.
Then there were 2 options - No Top Gear, or Top Gear with someone else hosting. BBC thought the latter option was better, and as a viewer, honestly even I feel the latter option was definitely better. Something to watch is better than nothing!!
And as far as Clarkson, May and Hammond are concerned, they could start a new show, as someone else has already mentioned. But who's gonna produce that? Who's gonna send them to impossible countries and impossible locations with crews and unlimited resources?? We all need to agree that Clarkson is nearing his expiry date. So whoever is gonna hire him now, will need a replacement sooner than later. I wouldn't be that producer who hires him!! And punching your previous producer and getting it reported all over the world is not exactly a strong point in your CV when you're looking for a new job, is it??
