Volvo S90 at the Mobile World Congress 2016 I spent the last week in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress 2016 (MWC16). But since cars are the ultimate expression of mobility once can expect to see a few there as well. The S90 was displayed at the Ericsson (my employer) hall - station manned jointly by the Ericsson and Volvo staff. So I had five days to experience this car as closely as possible without being able to drive it.
Under wraps on Sunday (show started on Monday)
Ericsson has partnerships with Volvo for several markets - One of the most important ones is for connected cars. You can read more here - http://www.ericsson.com/thecompany/p...nected-vehicle
Volvo is selling the car with with its second generation Pilot Assist program in certain markets. This, I find, similar to Tesla's auto pilot program. More details - http://www.automotive-fleet.com/news...ot-assist.aspx
Speaking to the Volvo staff - the focus of driver experience was around reducing complexity. So most buttons have been done away with and replaced by context specific touch interface through the large center console.
The interiors, as expected from a car of this class, are really nice - It did a really great job of cutting out the din from 3000 people in the vicinity. Oh yes... the driver seat also has massage feature with several settings to choose from
Another cool feature is the use of a soft key. There are several use cases for this including rental pick ups, airport runs etc. - http://www.technobuffalo.com/videos/...ss-smartphone/
