Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic SUV – the G-Class. Given the fact that the model is identified by its design, cosmetic alterations are minimal and the G 350 d and G 500 variants get restyled bumpers and now standard AMG flared wheel arches in the colour of the vehicle. The G 350 d now also comes as standard with 18-inch, five-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Given below are the variant wise engines and performance figures:-

- The G 500 gets a mill from the new range of Mercedes-AMG V8 engines. The power-plant is a 4.0L, twin-turbocharged, V8 setup that produces 416 BHP and 610 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h comes up in a claimed 5.9 seconds.

- The G 350 d makes 241 BHP and 600 Nm of torque from its 3.0L, V6 mill. This means that the power goes up by 33 BHP, while the torque output has risen by a healthy 60 Nm over the outgoing model. 0-100 km/h comes up in a claimed 8.9 seconds.

- The AMG G 63 is powered by a 5.5L, V8 that makes 563 BHP and 760 Nm of torque. The power goes up by 27 BHP over the outgoing model. 0-100 km/h comes up in a claimed 5.4 seconds.

- The AMG G 65 is propelled by a 6.0L, V12 that makes 621 BHP and 1,000 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h comes up in a claimed 5.3 seconds.

The G 350 d, G 500 and AMG G 63 are equipped as standard with an ECO start/stop function. The new models retain the ladder-type frame, and also retained is the permanent all-wheel drive, low-range gearbox and three differential locks that can be engaged/disengaged while on the move.

The German automaker is also introducing the AMG EDITION 463 special model that will be based on the AMG G 63 or the AMG G 65. The interior specification includes a two-tone instrument panel, two-tone seats in ‘designo’ leather with side bolsters in carbon-look leather and contrasting top-stitching, seat and door centre panels in a diamond design, carbon-fibre trim and door pulls in nappa leather.

On the outside, a variant gets a stainless steel under-guard, AMG sport stripes along the sides, a protective-strip insert in black aluminium look as well as 21-inch forged alloy wheels.

Edit: UK price estimate is over 2lakh pounds. So expect it to be a 2 crore plus vehicle in India.

The Regular G Class is different than the special edition- G500 4x4² Showcar.
