The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC crossover has been spotted testing in Germany. The GLC uses the new nomenclature that was announced by the company in November 2014. Based on the C-Class sedan, it is a replacement for the GLK in the company's line-up.

Images reveal that the GLC features a more curvaceous body compared to the rather boxy-looking GLK. At the front, it has a new dual slat grille, swept back headlights and chrome inserts around the lower air intake. Viewed from the side, the vehicle is seen with an upward sloping shoulder line and a downward sloping roof, which sports a pair of chrome roof rails. At the rear, there is a new tailgate with a rear spoiler at the top, a new pair of tail lamp clusters and dual exhaust pipes integrated in the bumper.

The interiors of the GLC seem to have been carried over from the C-Class. There is multifunction steering wheel, a free-standing multimedia display and circular air vents.

The GLC is expected to use the same petrol and diesel engines as the C-Class. An AMG variant with a 4-0-litre, turbocharged V8 producing 470 bhp and 650 Nm of torque is also expected.

Mercedes-Benz will position the GLC above the GLA in its SUV line-up. It will be pitted against the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Mercedes-Benz’s global range is getting increasingly varied with multiple iterations of the same models being offered. After the reveal of the GLE Coupe, the German automaker has just released a sketch of the GLC coupe. The design on the car will be largely similar to that of the upcoming GLC-Class SUV that replaces the GLK.

Expected to be based on the same platform as the W205 C-Class, the GLC-Coupe will be previewed at the Shanghai motor show that takes place later this month. The vehicle showcased at the event will provide insight into the design of the production model crossover, the reveal of which, is expected no earlier than 2017.

The new model will sit below the GLE coupe and will share its features and power-trains with the yet to be revealed GLC-Class SUV (X205).

Mercedes-Benz is presenting the GLC concept in Shanghai, which is the crossover coupe version of Class C. The model will fight the BMW X4 . The production version is scheduled for 2016 or 2017.
In terms of engine, the coupe crossover can start with the 156 hp 1.6, through 2.0 of 211 hp and with the V6 3.0 as top of the line. However, it is likely a CFG 63 AMG V8 version 4.0.

The Concept GLC Coupe previews the upcoming GLC Coupe, a sporty variant of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC, the successor of the current Mercedes-Benz GLK.

The Coupe is aimed squarely at the successful BMW X4, just like Mercedes followed the BMW X6 with the GLE Coupe.

I thought the nomenclature would reflect something like this
GLA = A class, GLC (M class) = C class & GLE (GLK) = E class.
How come GLK becomes GLC? Or was I wrong? Confused!

G- Wagen remains as it is.

GL = GLS = S Class

ML = GLE = E Class

GLK = GLC = C Class

GLA = A Class

Your assumption that the ML is a C Class equivalent vehicle was wrong. Hence the confusion. Like the GLA, Mercedes had the GLK in markets abroad - the GLK is renamed to the GLC.

Hope this image clears things up. The K in the GLK stands for Kompaktklasse - in simple terms - a compact GL.

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch its replacement for the GLK-Class SUV. Earlier this month, the German automaker revealed the concept GLC-Coupe. While the coupe will enter production at a later stage, the near production ready GLC-SUV has just been spied up close in Germany near the company’s headquarters.
