Renault's new crossover to be named the "Kadjar"

Renault has confirmed that their new C-segment crossover will be named the Kadjar. Renault says the name is an amalgamation of the crossover's ability to go anywhere and its agility. The French car maker will be actively promoting the Kadjar via its social media platforms. According to the official statement, new photos and videos will be posted daily before the wraps come off the Renault Kadjar completely on 2nd February, 2015.

Going by glimpses of the campaign seen so far, the Kadjar will be promoted as a lifestyle oriented product, much like other SUVs/crossovers. The Kadjar will be placed above the Renault Captur in the brand's product hierarchy. The crossover will be based on the CMF platform co-developed with Nissan, which also underpins the Nissan Qashqai. While the official reveal will take place on 2nd February, the public debut is scheduled to take place in March 2015 at the Geneva motor show.

Given that the Kadjar will be priced in the Rs 19 Lakh+ price range, it is unlikely that the crossover will be launched in India anytime soon.

Re: Renault's new crossover to be named the "Kadjar"

It seems to the Renault version of the Nissan Qashqai. And it looks like the French version will be more premium, have better go-anywhere ability and an even more complicated name. Here's their explanation.

  • ‘The name Kadjar is built around Kad and Jar,’
  • ‘Kad is inspired by "quad" – representing a go-anywhere four-wheeled vehicle.
  • Jar recalls the French words "agile" and "jaillir," representing agility and suddenly emerging from somewhere.
  • ‘The sound and spelling of the name have an exotic feel which suggests adventure and discovering new horizons.
  • The initial letter ‘K’ is indicative of the model’s robustness.
  • Kadjar fits seamlessly with Renault’s existing B-segment crossover – Captur.

I think the last time I had to think so much about something that should have been seemingly simple in the first place - was at a Christopher Nolan movie.

Re: Renault's new crossover to be named the "Kadjar"

The wraps are off! Well, it will be interesting to see if this would be launched in the Indian market. Duster/Terrano twins are almost close to XUV on pricing, I wonder how they would position the Kadjar, which is more of a Qashqai sibling. Does this mean price correction and movement down the value chain for the Duster? Link to the NDTV article below -

Re: Renault's new crossover to be named the "Kadjar"

I regularly go to Wolfsburg to test drive new Volkswagen cars. When I was back from an off road test drive of the Volkswagen Touareg what caught my attention was something not Volkswagen! Yes. It was a bright orange Renault Kadjar.

This Crossover was a test drive vehicle parked bang opposite to the Volkswagen head quarters at Wolfsburg and was sharing space with many other German cars.

Initial impressions were really good.

This car has presence and how. It compares well in size to the Mercedes Benz GLK and is bigger than the Audi Q3 parked next to it.

With plenty of French flair and cheekiness, it stood out from the crowd. It was not only me, but an owner of the all new Audi Q7 got out of his SUV and we both exchanged pleasantries about this interesting new car. We both took multiple pictures of the car and in his own words, at least in looks, the Kadjar was better than his beloved new Q7. I'll let the pictures do the talking now.

Some of the Pros and cons that I can quickly point out from the initial impressions are mentioned below.

Pros:
1. Smart and refreshing looks.
2. Plenty of features.
3. Good road presence.

Cons:
1. Inconsistent panel gaps.
2. Some of the plastic panels like the one below the rear bumper looked a bit cheap.

The car also had LED Pure Vision headlamps and was on 19 inch wheels.

Apologies for the poor quality of pictures. In order to bring the size of each pic below 3 MB, I had to take the screen shot of the 4k resolution images.

Seriously?

I know looks are subjective and all that, but comparing a Qashqai-based vehicle to one that is 2 segments and a few price points above?

Exactly what were you testing?

Please read what I typed before jumping the gun. The comparison was based purely on size.

I was testing the Touareg. I just happened to take some pictures of the kadjar up close.

Have a nice day

It looks quirky for sure, but based on looks I would prefer the Qashqai any day. It looks much more aggressive than the Kadjar and has great road presence.

2019 Renault Kadjar Facelift revealed.

Quote:
Visually, the Kadjar carries over the familiar C-shape light signature from Renault’s other current models, but now the LED indicators are integrated into the LED daytime running strip. The higher trim levels also get standard reshaped LED fog lamps, which reduce the energy consumption six times compared to the conventional halogen units. Redesigned bumpers, additional chrome trim, and new 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels round off the design changes.

The most important improvement under the body is the addition of Renault’s new 1.3-liter gasoline turbo engine. Developed in cooperation with Daimler, the motor is fitted with a gasoline particulate filter, which destroys particles in the exhaust gases by trapping them in a microporous honeycomb structure that regenerates automatically at regular intervals. The new TCe unit will be available with 140 horsepower (104 kilowatts) and 160 hp (119 kW) with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch automatic.

The diesel range has also been updated and now features a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The facelifted Kadjar will be offered with two diesels – Blue dCi 115 and Blue dCi 150, generating 115 hp (85 kW) and 150 hp (112 kW) respectively. Depending on the engine choice, a manual and an EDC automatic will be available, in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations.

Re: Renault's new crossover to be named the "Kadjar"

Hope 'bit of kwid' in every design is not present in this. Kind of looks boring and doesnt add any premium-ness to their cars. It makes them dull and their logo just enhances that feeling

2022 Renault Austral SUV Replaces Kadjar, Debuts New Esprit Alpine Trim Level.

Renault’s replacement for the Kadjar is the Austral, an electrified SUV that’s notable for the fact that it debuts a new sporty Esprit Alpine trim level.

The Austral is the third model in Renault’s plan to steal C-segment sales away from rivals, the other two being the Arkana crossover and Megane E-Tech Electric.

Quote:
Riding on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s third-generation CMF-CD platform, the two-row Austral offers seating for five wrapped in a muscular outer shell whose most intriguing feature is a hood that looks like it’s been caved in by a pair of doomed lovers landing side-by-side, naked and ass-first from four storeys up.

If the basic 17-inch wheels (20s are optional) sound a bit yesteryear, the interior at least looks right on trend thanks its combination of 12.3-inch digital gauge pack, 12-inch vertical console touchscreen and 9.3-inch head-up display. The infotainment system has Google built in and can be optioned with a bespoke Harman Kardon Hi-Fi system.
Quote:
chassis types are front-wheel drive-only, and though there are three powertrains to choose from, none makes more than 200 hp, and slightly confusingly the base engine makes more than the one above it. That base engine is an older-style mild hybrid setup consisting of a 1.3 liter four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 12V lithium-ion battery. It serves up 138 hp (140 PS) when ordered with a manual transmission, or 158 hp (160 PS) when optioned as an automatic, and coughs out 136g/km of CO2.

The Mild Hybrid Advanced engine that sits a rung further up the ladder is newer and greener, and is, says Renault, a genuine alternative to diesel, which is rapidly falling out of favor in Europe. A 1.2-liter triple buddied up with a 48v lithium-ion battery, it makes 128 hp (130PS), and emits 123g/km of airborne muck.
