Being eco-friendly is not a choice but a compulsion. Secondly I would never put an 'Eco' badge on a super/hyper car. It is the same as putting a sports badge on an 80 odd bhp family hatchback. Talk about how many revs it does, the power and torque and may be the economy, inspite of all that, in a press release. EcoBoost can adorn a dime a dozen hatchback or an everyday sedan to differentiate themselves from the sea of competitors but the halo car from your factory.

No one is calling it a bad step. It is the branding that I have issue with and that too on your 'halo' model.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

ECO-BOOST engine in a Ford GT?

I guess that really came as a surprise! However, if its churning out 600+ horses, I guess no complaints

The styling is absolutely phenomenal and the best designed Ford car in the past few years! Small design cues from other supercars seem to be there. But then the final result is amazing!

I think the car looks best from the rear 3/4th angle. Killer shot!
Ford are also offering yellow as a color option. Whoa!
Don't like yellow on it personally, but doesn't look that bad too!

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

So which one will come out on top?

The Ford GT or the new Honda NSX? This would be an epic showdown.

I bet the one's who are most anxious about the release of these two cars will be the folks from the BMW. If these two are going to be priced anywhere near the i8, then what BMW has done is walked into a machine gun fight with a pocket knife.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

I think Ford totally owned it at the Detroit Auto Show. Three High performance cars on their floor. I think the NSX had the weight of expectations from the last 2-3 years on its shoulders (ever since Acura revealed prototypes). People only got wind of the Ford GT in the last 3-4 months. I think it looks great and am sure by the time it comes out and people get to drive it, the driving experience would be great too. Kudos to Ford not going the hyrid power train way - am sure it keeps the weight down to under 3000 lbs. 2016 is going to be a great year for entry level super cars.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

Ford totally owned this contest in Detroit. Looking forward to one of Chris Harris or Jeremy drive this beast.

Ford Raptor is one more i am looking at.

Surprising that Tesla didnt do any noise in this location. Model X is surely keeping them busy and they are expected to have the Model 3 up next.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

C'mon guys, a 600 BHP motor isn't going to be fuel-efficient....EcoBoost or not. One of the main reasons that Ford got the V6 is motorsport. While I'm disappointed with the lack of a V8 - especially because Ford makes so many good V8s - I wouldn't entirely rule out a possibility in the future.

Also, lets not forget that the Nissan GT-R also has a twin-turbo V6 under its hood.

Quote:
The specifications for the World Endurance Championship's LM GTE class give turbo engines a maximum 4.0L displacement. Coincidence? I think not.
Quote:
Because the turbos come on the Ford GT street car and the engine is under 4,000 cc in displacement, both WEC and TUSC say it's A-OK, per the regs.

There will be marketing reasons too. No better push for the 'EcoBoost' badge than to have your halo car wear it.

It will not be fuel efficient especially if you are on boost all the time. However, since it is going to be reasonably lightweight, under light throttle and on highway cruise speeds, am sure that the 3.5 v6 will have enough grunt to keep going without utilizing the turbo boost. So the EPA ratings would come out fairly good and Ford can show that as a trumpcard. However, on a track (which would be home for this car), it would have similar fuel efficiency ratings like any NA V8 with similar power ratings would have.

Makes me remember a guy who made the new W222 S Class cockpit look like a joker face.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

This is absolutely brilliant. I know a lot of people think that it's not as good looking as the old GT but if you look at it evolutionary i don't think Ford could have done any better.

On the ecoboost issue, as long as there aren't ecoboost stickers plastered all over it, I think it's a brilliant choice. The 3.5L on the F-150 is an insane powerhouse.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

Although the EcoBoost V6 sounds wicked, I'm not sure how it'd help the brash image. I mean, American cars are sort of known for having huge displacements; not to mention, their Mr. Johnny Polar Bear can take a hike attitude.

Also, the NSX looks way better.

Re: Meet the brand new Ford GT!

EcoBoost is just engine family, used here so that people buying 1.0 L EcoBoost feel Boosted If it can give so much power with reduced emissions, thats good right? Dont know of US but in EU, the yearly taxes are based on emissions.
