SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Mod Note: Our XUV300 Report has been taken live at this link (Mahindra XUV300 : Official Review). Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

South Korean carmaker SsangYong has announced that it will call its upcoming compact crossover "Tivoli". The car is named after the Tivoli, a town situated near Rome, Italy. The company has also released three sketches giving us an idea of how the car is expected to look.

The X100, as the car had been codenamed, has been under development for the past three years. It was shown as XIV Air and XIV Adventure concepts at the Paris Motor Show, which was held in October. Going by the images, the production version is expected to carry over a lot of styling cues from the concepts and will have an urban SUV look.

The image of the interiors reveals a stylish cabin. SsangYong claims that it is designed to offer easy IT connectivity for its occupants.

The engine data of the Tivoli has not been revealed. However, if reports are to be believed, SsangYong will offer 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and diesel power plants for the crossover.

The Tivoli is expected to be launched in Korea in January 2015. It will be introduced in global markets in mid-2015. Indian auto major Mahindra, the parent company of SsangYong, has not disclosed any plans of bringing the Tivoli to India.

Mahindra should seriously consider bringing Tivoli to India since the Quanto couldn't capture the expected market share.

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Mahindra plans to launch two sub 4 meter compact SUV's and one light commercial vehicle in 2015. There could be a possibility that Mahindra launches something from Ssangyong stable.

Btw few months back there was news talking about changing the name of Ssangyong, as it was difficult to pronounce however i dint hear anything about it.

While Rexton is inspired by Mercedes Benz M-class, Tivoli seems to be inspired by Range Rover.

The interior has a lot of carry over from the XUV500.
- Lounge lighting
- Steering
- Dashboard
- Center console
- Door handles... etc

So the Korando has faded into oblivion? Also would be curios to read about rear space and legroom. Does not look very generous from that point of view. A 1.6 diesel is ideal. Would it be actually a sub 4m?

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Wow
The Tivoli is extremely elegant and (to create a bad pun) immediately evokes a minds-eye impression of the Range Rover Evoque!

It is so Evoque-Esque as to say that it is "significantly inspired by the Evoque, if not a pretty good copy!"

This is most certainly way better than the Korando and being so modern, elegant and attractive looking, I am sure it will fly off the shelves!

Why, even I would love to own one if it actually looks this good!

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

The car looks stunning. RR Evoque-ish. But the big question is , is it headed for our shores? I'm sick and tired of seeing teaser pics with a line added at the end of the narration saying," sadly, this one wouldn't make it to India." And everyone calls us the emerging markets, new happeneing places etc. etc. Huh!

Official images of the SsangYong Tivoli have been released. Codenamed 'X100', the Tivoli compact SUV is scheduled to make its debut in January 2015. The Tivoli represents a shift in SsangYong design. Exterior features include day time running LEDs, a slim black radiator grill, beefed up fenders, roof rails, blackened A & B pillars and integrated indicators in the ORVMs.

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Fantastic design and very sporty interiors. The exterior seeks inspiration from the Evoque quite obviously while the interior looks a bit like the Chevrolet Cruze.

Mahindra should consider bringing this to India and sell at around the price tag of Rs. 12-14 Lakhs. Should do very very well. IMHO if there is any car from the Syangyong stable that will sell well, this is it.

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Tivoli has been launched in Korea today. Hope they launch in India as well.

http://auto.ndtv.com/news/ssangyong-...n-korea-726412

Quote:
SsangYong Motor - a Mahindra group company has unveiled the Tivoli - a compact SUV, in Seoul. Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra joined M&M's President, Automotive division Pawan Goenka, and SsangYong Chairman Yoo-Il Lee at the launch. The car is based on the XIV-Adventure concept that SsangYong had showed at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. This is based on the same new shared-compact-platform that will also spawn Mahindra models in India this year as well. The Tivoli is also expected to be brought to the Indian market once the right-hand-drive version is readied by mid-2015. SsangYong says the new platform will help it add 100,000 unit sales - which exhibits how crucial the Tivoli as the first offering is to SsangYong's turnaround strategy.

The Tivoli is the first new model from SsangYong in years, and features a host of new bits - including a new 1.6 litre petrol powertrain and new transmission. The part that interests me is that it is also built differently to other SsangYongs, with over 70% of its body being made up of high strength steel. Further safety enhancements on board come from 7 airbags and ESP. It is going to be positioned below the SsangYong Korando in the company's portfolio. SsangYong has invested 350 billion KRW (Korean Won) to develop the car, over 3 and a half years.

The car looks modern and attractive, emulating the design of the XIV concepts. It also makes good use of the wheelbase (2600 mm), with cabin room being maximised. SsangYong claims the Tivoli is widest in class at 1795 mm. Inside the cabin, the design is fairly fresh, with touch screen controllers and car-type switches. The interior trim is available in three colours - black, beige and red. The car also has a flat-bottomed steering wheel for a sporty appeal. The second row of seats folds down fully to offer extra cargo space.

Engines at launch in Korea will be led by the new e-XGi 160, a new engine that is the result of three years of development. It offers 124 bhp and 157 Nm of torque. Claimed fuel economy figures are 12.0 kmpl for the automatic variant and 12.3 for the manual. The Tivoli has the optional 2nd gen AISIN transmission, which SsangYong claims is as efficient and quick as a dual-clutch box. We will have to wait to test that claim when we drive the Tivoli.

Prices for the Tivoli in Korea start at 16.3 million KRW, which is about Rs. 9.3 lakh. So this makes the Tivoli very enticing for us in India doesn't it? It is 4195 mm in length, which means Mahindra would need to plan to shave off around 200 mm on the version it plans for India, to gain the small-car excise duty benefit. Stay tuned for more on the Tivoli and it's India plans!

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

SsangYong has officially launched their "first compact global SUV", the Tivoli. Developed over a period of four years, the model has been launched in South Korea. The Tivoli is based on SsangYong's “Nature-born 3Motion” design philosophy. SsangYong will offer dual-tone body and roof options , while the SUV will be available with black, beige, and red interior colours as well. The Tivoli uses high-strength steel (HSS) for 71.4% of its body, and ultrahigh-strength steel (UHSS) for the remainder.

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Ssangyong Tivoli seen testing.

Quote:
Powered exclusively by either a 1.6-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol or 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel, the Tivoli can be mated to either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox

A spin off of Ssangyong's Tivoli can be expected to be launched in India as a rival to Duster and Terrano.
Mahindra's is rumored to be working on smaller turbo petrol engines and could eventually make their way into this.

Re: SsangYong X100 compact crossover to be called Tivoli

Tivoli sure it a big bet for Ssangyong. However, currently it seems they plan to launch it in the European market only and maybe US market. India market, i guess we may have to be happy with Mahindra's two SUVs coming in 2015.
