Finally! The current international version of Polo (6th gen) and the Taigun is based on the MQB A0 IN platform. So, it must be the same international model with some changes and specs revision for our market. Should be an instant success for the popular model.

Just a small correction - Current version of international Polo is based on MQB A0 platform on which the other international models like Kamiq, T-Cross, Virtus are based.

The MQB A0 IN platform is the India/developing market specific platform on which VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq will be based on. So the new Polo will be based on this low-cost platform and not the original one.

Looking forward to this car nonetheless. Finally, VW group seem to be waking up. They should also plan to launch the Skoda Fabia with the Polo to make further inroads.

Thanks for pointing that out, Amit. I stand corrected. Only Kushaq and Taigun is on the IN platform and rest of the hatchbacks from the VW stable including the A1 is based on the MQB A0. My impression was that both are same apart from the additional requirements for emerging markets like ours. A couple of years ago, Skoda mentioned that derivative of the VW MQB A0 platform will underpin their future models in India.

Oh man, super confused now.

I have booked Polo GT TSI and tentative delivery is last week of Jan. I can wait for a few months if VW is indeed going to launch the new gen POLO.

Need help on the below guys if anyone has more information:

a> What is the probability of new gen POLO getting launched this year?

b> I dont see concrete information that they will use the MQB A0 IN to bring in a new gen polo. From what I see they plans are to use the platform to bring in SUV's/CSUV's or am I reading it wrong?

None of the articles talking about SARV2.0TTAM explicitly talk about new gen POLO, but only talk about new SUV's.

Any inputs for the decision making will be very useful. Thanks in advance.

Considering the new i20's positioning, it is most likely that the new Polo will be priced above it. Well, the market gave a great response to i20 despite the high price tag, let's see how this new(or rather old) kid on the block fares.

Can't comment about the probability as VW group is super lazy when it comes to Polo. Probably it will be launched after Vento/Virtus at the end of the year or at the same time.

Slight correction here. Vento will be underpinned by MQB A0 IN platform also along with other new launches as part of VW group's India 2.0 plan.

VW gives the Polo a powerful facelift in the middle of its product life and positions the small car clearly in the direction of the Golf 8 - also visually

At the front of the prototype, narrower Golf-style headlights can be seen. The grille is being revised with the facelift and the bumpers are also in the Golf style. At the rear, Volkswagen is saying goodbye to the almost square lights and will let them grow low and wide in the trunk lid in future. The outer part of the lamps is correspondingly smaller.

The well-known petrol engines with 1.0 liter displacement and an output between 95 and 110 hp remain as drives. There is also a 1.5-liter TSI with 150 hp. The engines could decrease or increase in terms of consumption and performance. They are coupled to a manual six-speed gearbox or a seven-speed DSG. As innovations there are probably two mild hybrid versions: a 1.0 eTSI with 110 PS and a 1.5-liter eTSI with 150 PS - both with a 48-volt network and RSG belt starter generator.

The fate of the Polo GTI is still unknown. The 200 HP Polo has currently been withdrawn from the program.

I get a feeling that 2021 might see a facelift for the Vento and also a more expensive 1.5L/150 bhp engine taking up the erstwhile Jetta space. If this really happens, I am going for the latter. I really regret missing out on the 1.8 TSI and really want the 2.0 TSI in a sedan from VW.

Anyone has any insights on whether something of this sort is cooking at VW?

2022 VW Polo and Virtus under tests:

The development of the Volkswagen Polo restyling is being carried out both in Brazil and in Europe.


Within VW, the hatch is code-named VW270 LA PA and the sedan, VW271 LA PA . “LA” comes from Latin America and “PA” from Project Atualization.

Mechanicals will be retained:

Polo should maintain the same engines that are currently offered here, namely the 1.6 16V 120 hp, the 1.0 12V TSI 128 hp and the 1.4 16V TSI 150 hp.

Regarding the equipment list, our hatch may gain additional filling, with items borrowed from the brother SUV Nivus. Therefore, it is not surprising that the newcomer receives a VW Play multimedia center and semi driving autonomous system.

But the safety items can also be improved, with the inclusion of curtain airbags (totaling six) and full-led headlights in more versions besides the GTS, in addition to autonomous driving assistants.

The news about the launch of next gen Polo is doing rounds on & off, but again no concrete news as such. Skoda-VW too is tight lipped about it.

As the 'New' Polo launch is near, the hatch is spied again:

The Polo will present a more modern image on the outside, with heritage of golf, and a revised interior

the headlights havea flatter design, and with a certain influence of the older brother at the bottom, with a double LED luminous cord entering the finer grille.

The generous size of the air intakes occupying the front bumper has also been disguised, although they clearly show their path. Volkswagen has also disguised the waistline,as has much of the lag. The pilots are completely new, now with "arms" biting the gate,just as the defense is new and the lower section of the integrated exhaust bezels. A somewhat deeper facelift that will give a new air to the model

Updated 2022 Polo in leaked images, a day before its reveal:

In the back, the trunk cover kept the same shape and creases, but received the extension of the lights there Golf.

The updated Polo will have new seats and the new steering wheel from the Nivus.

Too many cuts, looks good however no more timeless. They had to do it though, it's the age of many features, looks and LEDs. Interiors are good and hopefully would be similarly built as the last generation one. Hopefully they get it to India and will be a good match to the new looker Altroz.
